University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust
An opportunity has arisen to join our Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) and Ambulatory Emergency Care for Surgery at Poole Hospital.
We are seeking a band 5 Staff Nurse to join our friendly, highly motivated team.
The Surgical Admissions Unit is a 15-bedded fast-paced unit in which patients present with a wide variety of emergency surgical conditions, giving rise to a diverse range of development and learning opportunities. The unit also includes an Ambulatory Care for Surgery pathway, which is led by two Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
Patients are referred under the care of General Surgical, Maxillofacial or Gynaecological specialties, as well as from GP surgeries, other hospitals, our outpatient clinics, and our emergency department.
Patients receive rapid nurse-led assessment and are stabilized before individual management plans are prepared and delivered to ensure each patient receives the specialist surgical care they need. Patients can be either treated and discharged from SAU or admitted to one of our inpatient wards.
The unit offers excellent opportunities for developing experience and knowledge within the acute surgical environment and there are plenty of opportunities to use clinical judgment and improve nursing skills, including admitting, assessing, and treating acutely unwell patients.
Post-holders will be expected to work a variety of shift patterns including night duty.
