To support growth within our business through recent project wins, we are looking for a CDM Lead to join us. Working on a range of Infrastructure and Energy projects, you’ll provide safety leadership and deliver CDM training to our project teams and JV partners.
On a day-to-day basis, you'll be responsible for:
1. Supporting COWI UK to undertake the Designer and Principal Designer (PD) roles as laid out within CDM, taking all relevant good practice protocols into account.
2. Delivering CDM training to UK staff and non-UK staff working on UK projects to ensure sound understanding of the principles, regulations and relevant COWI UK processes.
3. Providing leadership, advice and assistance to ensure COWI UK's organisational compliance with the CDM Regulations
4. Identifying ways to increase COWI's ability to fulfil the role of PD where appropriate.
5. Providing support and guidance to the design teams for them to plan, coordinate and monitor the CDM aspects of the Preconstruction phase of the project, taking into account the principles of prevention. And in the completion of CDM Risk Registers, to ensure a consistent approach to recording and notification of H&S risk.
6. Providing advice to the Bid team in identifying additional contractual obligations involving the provision of additional CDM Client support services.
7. Supporting the review and assessment of competency (skills, knowledge, experience and organisational capability) of external designers, consultants and contractors being considered for appointment, as appropriate.
8. Assisting in ensuring that everyone involved in the pre-construction phase communicates and collaborates, coordinating their work as required to minimise health and safety risks.
9. Undertaking (with support from the COWI UK Design Teams) project CDM audits and reporting findings to the Head of Health and Safety and COWI UK Senior Leadership Team where concerns arise or where improvements should be made to current procedures.
10. Identifying and assisting to deliver innovation and efficiency initiatives relating to risk reduction through CDM and wider Safety in Design Initiatives which contribute to raising the bar for implementation of CDM within COWI UK.

On top of that, you’ll have:
11. HSE Chartership or as a minimum have a Cert. IOSH level or similar accreditation and be working towards full chartership
12. Demonstrable knowledge of Health and Safety in Infrastructure & Construction and a relevant qualification, such as NEBOSH
13. A CDM related qualification such as ICE H&S Register, MaPS,
14. A proven history of carrying out design reviews on large infrastructure projects.
15. The ability to demonstrate management and coordination skills required of a PD, with the ability to challenge and influence internal and external teams.
16. Have a clear understanding of how health and safety is managed through the design process, with knowledge of major clients' CDM processes, e.g. Network Rail, Highways England.
17. An active presence in external CDM forum groups and professional organisations.
18. Experience of the audit process and the ability to identify and express areas of concern
