An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join our team on Ward 20 Queens Hospital.
Ward Receptionist cover will be required Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm. The role is varied and requires a flexible approach. Healthcare experience and knowledge is desirable with a range of administrative procedures including case note tracking.
An ability and willingness to be involved in service improvement including data collection and active involvement in Quality Improvement Projects is essential. The successful candidate will also be required to support other colleagues with admin duties and support the development and adaptation of the role of the Ward Receptionist to mirror the demands of the ward.
The role as a Ward Receptionist is vital to the overall smooth running of the ward; you will be the first people our patients, visitors, and staff will be greeted by.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Ward Receptionist within the ward is varied and fast-paced, encompassing a variety of responsibilities to support the high standard of care given to patients. This includes but is not limited to:
* Using clinical software to manage patient information and location.
* Appropriately filing patient notes.
* Admitting/discharging patients using the Trust systems.
* Taking telephone calls.
* Engaging in communication with patients, relatives, visitors, and staff alike.
* Communicating in different ways, i.e., written, verbal, or via computers.
* Dealing with all queries, either via telephone or face to face promptly and efficiently to ensure that an accurate and quality information service is provided to the multidisciplinary team, patients, and their relatives.
* Liaising with other areas of the hospital to help support patient care.
* Working knowledge and confidence of systems such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
* Making appointments for patients.
* Non-clinical care of patients, i.e., supporting them with post/phone calls/ordering taxis/completing feedback.
* Managing post.
* Conducting audits.
* Providing administration support for Sister/Nurse-in-Charge as required.
* Ordering and maintaining ward supplies as necessary and in accordance with Trust policies.

Person Specification
Education
* Good standard of education (GCSE/CSE/O Level).
* Demonstrable clerical experience.
* Reception experience on a ward.
* Ideally ward-based but good knowledge of IT systems is essential.
