Testimonials from previous placement students My year as Social Media Intern at East Durham College was easily the highlight of my university experience. Working in a small team meant the placement was tailored to me, fully utilising my strengths while pushing me to develop and overcome weaknesses in a completely supportive environment. There's so much going on at EDC that you'll very quickly find your place (and you'll probably excel) This isn't a big scary firm you're joining, it's a tight-knit family. The relationships you build are easily the highlight. The welcoming staff body took me under their wing and working often one to one with my supervisor meant he always knew exactly how to push and challenge me in just the right way. The positivity and enthusiasm of this place is infectious, you'll have the freedom to come up with ideas, and the backing to try them out It may be cliche, but it's really true that no two days are ever the same. You won't want to leave EDC, but when you do, you'll leave with a wealth of new experiences, having learned more about yourself and the world around you, and undoubtedly you'll have had a year of fun. Seriously, just apply. You won't regret it. Josh, Northumbria Uni. Now working as a journalist for the BBC. During my time at East Durham College, I truly felt like a valued member of the team, due to the supportive and collaborative environment the college offers. On top of that, my role and responsibilities gradually increased, which enabled me to significantly enhance and hone my skillset. Most notably, this opportunity facilitated a seamless transition into full-time employment with Education Partnership North East upon completing my degree. I cannot emphasize how much working for East Durham College enhanced my career prospects, skillset, and confidence in the workplace. The personal and professional growth I experienced during that time was truly invaluable. I highly recommend this opportunity to anyone Lucy, Northumbria Uni. Now working as a Social Media Content Creator at Sunderland College. From the start of my internship I was treated like an employee and not just an Intern, I was given real responsibility and opportunities that allowed me to gain a range of business, marketing, communications, graphic design and copywriting skills. I was able to be creative, in outlining and implementing great social media and general marketing strategies. This allowed me to accumulate an impressive knowledge surrounding EDC’s internal and external marketing and business-related activities. This also gave vital insight into what a role in the marketing industry will or could be like and guided my career aspirations moving forward. It also aided my personal and professional development by allowing me to understand thoroughly how to carry myself and build lasting valued relationships within the workplace. The knowledge gained throughout my internship informed and inspired my dissertation topic on aspects of digital marketing and brand personality, which I believe was the additional aid that helped me achieve a First Class Honors. Following graduation, I was able to secure a position as a Marketing Executive and also worked in internal marketing communications for a global organisation, before going on to secure a masters degree. I am now a Communications and Marketing officer for a local council. The knowledge and skills I evidenced and spoke about concerning my experience at EDC allowed me to secure and excel in these positions. The exposure to industry, whether it be marketing, communications, copywriting, design or business orientated, is something you will gain in abundance throughout your internship at East Durham College. I hope my experience will inspire you to consider applying for an internship with EDC - and have as much fun as I did Ellen, Northumbria Uni.
