We have an exciting opportunity for an HCPC registered Art Therapist to join the innovative and dynamic Health & Justice Service within Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust. Based within HMPYOI Low Newton and HMP Durham in Durham, you will work within the Integrated Support Unit (an 11 bedded inpatient unit housing men with HMP Durham from across the regional prisons with moderate to severe mental illness) and our Mental Health In-Reach team at Low Newton to provide specialist assessments and deliver evidenced based interventions for women with complex trauma and severe mental health conditions.
The role will involve you working within two multi-disciplinary teams, comprising of mental health and learning disability nurses, forensic psychiatrists, applied psychologists and psychological practitioners and other allied health professionals. The role involves close liaison with all professionals and identified members of the prison operational teams as well as other professionals involved in the service user's care. The post holder is expected to work autonomously and manage a complex caseload.
Main duties of the job
As the only art therapist within the two services, the post holder is expected to provide a comprehensive service, including specialist assessment, formulation and individual and/or group interventions. You will support some of our most vulnerable patients to express their emotions and deal with challenges by helping them to understand and deal with internal conflicts and distress by supporting positive changes in their behaviour and well-being. Significant interest and experience of working with those with relational difficulties is essential. We particularly welcome those with an interest in research and evaluation, as well as applicants with an interest in quality and service improvement.
