The Finance Assistant post is an integral part of the finance department function and has a key part to pay in the accurate, effective, and efficient delivery of department objectives. The post-holder will also be responsible for the processing of the purchase and sale invoices, preparing bank reconciliations, and supporting the monthly management accounting process.
The post requires good IT skills and an ability to work to strict deadlines as part of a small team.

Newton Place Surgery is a vibrant purpose-built surgery with a great family feel, set in the beautiful market village of Faversham. The practice has good transportation links, less than 1 mile from Faversham train station and close to the M2 turn-off.
Our practice has a list size of 19,400 and we are part of Mid-Kent PCN.
We have a large multidisciplinary team who supports the excellent care we deliver. This consists of 6 GP partners, 11 salaried GPs, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Paramedic Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Mental Health Practitioner, Practice Nurses, Associate Practitioners, Health Care Assistants and a large administrative team.
We offer a variety of additional on-site services such as ultrasound, audiology, physiotherapy, women's health, minor surgery, ECGs, and spirometry and we are also a covid vaccination site. We also have an off-site ophthalmology service in Folkestone. The practice is actively involved in research and a training practice.
Job Responsibilities
Primary Key Responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Finance Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
* Support the management accounting process
* Accurately raise bills on the accounting software
* Raise invoices for services provided at the practice
* Ensure invoices are paid within the given time frame and address any queries
* Review all income and expenditure statements, identifying any inaccuracies and rectifying such issues, informing the finance manager as required
* Reconciliation of accounting system - QuickBooks
* Maintain an effective system for the handling of petty cash and cheques
* Assist with ordering and credit control
* Coordinating monthly payroll adjustments ensuring timely submission
* Raising practice claims and associated evidence, as advised by the finance / business manager
* Reconciliation of monthly claims data
* Assist with pension submissions and uploading pension updates
* Present financial forecasts to partners as and when required
* Ensure that effective financial controls are in place and processes are adhered to
* Understand and brief the management team on financial implications of contract and legislation changes affecting the organisation
* Maintain an effective working relationship with the ICB, ensuring the organisation receives a proportionate and equitable allocation of resources
Secondary Responsibilities:
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the finance assistant may be requested to:
* Deputise for the finance manager in their absence
* Act as the primary point of contact for finance-related matters with NHS E, the ICB and the organisations accountant
* Partake in audit as requested by the business/ finance manager
* Attend and actively participate in practice management meetings
* Attend any external meetings pertinent to the role of Finance Assistant
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Excellent standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills
* Educated to degree level in healthcare or business
Experience
* Previous experience of working in a similar role as a finance/ accounts assistant or similar capacity
* Experience of data analysis and the production of reports
* Experience of using accounting software
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting
* Experience of financial planning and forecasting
* Experience of primary care/running costs for NHS organisations
