Job summary PLEASE NOTE; The start date for this post will be no earlier than July 2025 Patient administration underpins the patient journey and supports clinical teams in delivering high quality patient care and can make a real difference to the patient experience. Effective and efficient patient administration supports management through ensuring a high standard of data quality and by making the best use of capacity and resources. The Medical Secretary is pivotal in achieving effective patient administration. Main duties of the job Deal with urgent and routine correspondence and tasks in accordance with agreed practice and CQUIN standards including transcription from digital dictation, for the Consultant's team, which may include outpatient reports, operation notes and other relevant clinical and non clinical correspondence. Maintain accurate 18 week referral to treatment (RTT) pathway for patients. Following validation be responsible for accurate and timely recording, reporting exceptions to senior personnel Works with Choice & Access to arrange clinics cancellations, ensuring clear instructions are given to re-appointing patients, escalating capacity issues to the Specialty Co-ordinator. Open and prioritise correspondence on behalf of Consultant ensuring that urgent correspondence receives prompt attention. Ensures patient pathways are updated to minimise validation and data quality issues. When required will assist in the validation of patient pathways working with the Specialty Receive, manage and prioritise telephone and personal enquires, complaints, messages and information from patients, relatives, General Practitioners, Consultants and other medical staff and external organisations on behalf of Consultant and clinical team. Manage patient investigation results. Responsible for chasing up missing results. Maintain systems for monitoring and retrieving outstanding investigations. Maintain Consultant's diary.
