Financial Controller Key Responsibilities: Month-End Close & Financial Reporting: Lead and manage the month-end close process for the UK and international legal entity operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. Prepare and review financial statements in line with IFRS and UK GAAP standards. Manage balance sheet control, ensuring proper reconciliation and accuracy. Oversee working capital management, ensuring efficient cash flow, effective management of receivables and payables, and optimal liquidity across the business. Coordinate the consolidation of financials for multi-entity operations, ensuring accurate elimination of intercompany transactions and compliance with accounting standards. Internal & External Audit: Work closely with external audit partners to ensure smooth audits, particularly around transfer pricing, R&D tax credits, and compliance. Coordinate internal audits and ensure effective implementation of financial controls across the business. Ensure R&D tax credit claims are accurately prepared and compliant and collaborate with tax advisors to maximise eligible claims. VAT & Tax Compliance: Oversee VAT filings and ensure compliance for the UK and international operations, addressing any related issues or queries. Collaborate with tax advisors and the wider finance team to support tax compliance and reporting. Advise on R&D tax credits and ensure relevant financial activities are identified and captured for claims. Balance Sheet Control: Take full responsibility for balance sheet management, including monthly reconciliations, ensuring all entries are supported and accurate. Implement and maintain strong financial controls to safeguard the integrity of financial data. Actively monitor and manage working capital to ensure operational efficiency, improve cash conversion cycles, and optimise business performance. Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a small team of two part-qualified assistant accountants, providing guidance and fostering professional growth. Ensure the team delivers high-quality financial reporting, including accurate monthly and annual consolidation, and meets deadlines. Business partnering & group finance collaboration: Work closely with the Group Finance function to ensure alignment on financial activities and reporting processes. Provide business performance insights to senior management, including working capital trends and R&D tax credit impact, and assist in strategic decision-making. Collaborate with Group Finance to ensure the business unit follows all company financial policies, procedures, and compliance requirements. Assist in implementing and monitoring internal controls to ensure financial integrity at the business unit level, in alignment with group-wide frameworks. Legal Entity Oversight: Oversee financial operations across trading companies and holding company, ensuring compliance with local regulations and company policies. Manage intercompany transactions, ensuring accurate reporting across jurisdictions, and ensure efficient consolidation of financial results for group reporting purposes. The successful candidate: Experience: Qualified ACCA, ACA, or equivalent, ideally with 3 years of post-qualification experience in financial management or controllership role. Strong expertise in month-end close, financial reporting, VAT, and balance sheet control. Proven experience in working in fast-paced, dynamic environments driven by change, growth, integration, and acquisitions. Experience managing audits and liaising with external partners, particularly on transfer pricing and tax compliance. Skills: Strong technical accounting skills and deep understanding of IFRS, UK GAAP, and local tax regulations (particularly VAT). Excellent financial reporting capabilities with a focus on accuracy and timeliness. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with senior leadership, external auditors, and internal teams. Strong team management capabilities, with experience leading and mentoring junior accountants. Proficient in using ERP systems and advanced Excel skills. Education: Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. Qualified ACCA, ACA, or equivalent.
