As a Police Driving Instructor, you will work across the curriculum areas to ensure the delivery of training to new recruits, officers, and staff. You will provide instruction in the driving of all types of Police vehicles and associated duties, potentially up to and including advanced driver and pursuit level. This role requires high standards of behaviour, dress, and performance as you will be acting as a role model for the organisational values. You must be able to motivate your learners and meet high organisational standards, being flexible and resilient to unpredictable changes in schedules.
The role will predominantly be based at Suffolk Constabulary Headquarters, Martlesham, but you may be required to work across Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies to meet the demand of driver training, as may be reasonably required.
It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:
1. Qualified as a Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor or have a proven operational Police background at advanced driving level.
2. Meet the DVLA Group 2 higher medical standards in all respects.
3. Proven experience of developing and contributing to effective teamwork.
4. Proven ability to work with the minimum of supervision and with initiative and resourcefulness.
5. Proven oral and written communication skills, with the ability to speak clearly, concisely and inspire confidence where appropriate.
6. Ability to travel to work at other locations and occasional evening working as required.
It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:
1. Hold a Level 4 Diploma in Learning and Development or Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent qualifications.
2. Have previous experience as a driver trainer.
Hours of work are 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. This post is offered on a permanent basis.
If successful through the application process, you may then be invited to attend an Assessment Day. This will entail a Highway Code examination, driving assessment, a 10-minute presentation on a given topic, and a formal interview.
If successful in the assessment process, candidates (unless already qualified) will need to complete a Standard Response course followed by an Advanced Driving course and a 4-week College of Policing Training Essentials Programme (modules 1, 2, 3 & 5) prior to starting the Police Driving Instructor Course.
