The Primary Care Pharmacy Technician will operate as part of a team in a highly professional, efficient, and supportive prescribing hub.
The postholder will be supported and working alongside a team of pharmacists and technicians in general practice. In this role, they will be supported daily by a clinical team that includes an advanced clinical practitioner pharmacist. There is a clinical lead who will develop, manage, and mentor them. The postholder will support and contribute to the development of high-quality and cost-effective prescribing. In addition, the postholder will facilitate the implementation of rational repeat prescribing strategies within GP Practices and develop expertise in the area of GP computer systems.
The postholder should approach working hours and location in a flexible manner, and hours of work and duties may change subject to the needs of the organisation and on request and instruction from the line manager.
Main duties of the job
* Work pro-actively with the wider Prescribing Team to deliver quality, safe, cost-effective, and evidence-based prescribing.
* Influence prescribing habits across the organisation.
* Ensure compliance with the defined Prescribing Policy as agreed by the Lead Pharmacist and Prescribing Team.
* Process secondary care discharge summaries and clinic letters.
* Participate in audits and improve patient access to prescribing through audits.
* Develop and implement formularies.

* Support Affinity Care medicines optimisation strategies.
* Identify medicine-related problems or queries including supply and availability and work to resolve any such issues.
* Undertake medication reviews and consultations to the scope of ability and practice, and with support, mentoring, and coaching, expand to a wider scope.

Qualifications
* Qualified to level 3 NVQ, BTEC, or Diploma in pharmacy service skills and pharmaceutical science.
* GPhC registration.
* Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience and CPD.
* Minimum 1-year Primary Care/Practice experience.
* Experience working in a patient-focused environment preferably gained in General Practice or NHS.
* Demonstrable ability to analyse and interpret data and information accurately with excellent attention to detail and high levels of concentration.
* IT literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
* Demonstrable experience and understanding of strict confidentiality.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to always demonstrate empathy and act courteously.
* Able to work on own initiative and under pressure, prioritise workload, and function as a team member. The ability to work flexibly is essential.
