SSE Renewables seeks Panel members for flagship regional fund Panel Members (x2) SSE Renewables, Sustainable Community Development Fund Base Location: Scotland (Flexible) Over its lifetime, SSE Renewables' Sustainable Development Fund will make over £57 million available to strategic community projects in the regions where we operate onshore wind farms built after 2012. The fund is directed at supporting projects that can achieve significant impact and has three priority themes: Creating opportunities Empowering communities Sustainable places The fund is available for community projects in the following Scottish local authority regions: Dumfries and Galloway Highlands Perth and Kinross Scottish Borders South Lanarkshire The Opportunity The fund is guided by, and all award decisions made by, an independent panel chaired by Lord Jack McConnell, former First Minister for Scotland. For information on current Panel members, please visit our website. Panel members will support delivery of the fund by deciding on the outcome of grant applications received. Then will also advise of the development of the fund. Applicant Criteria We would like to hear from applicants who: Have expertise in environmental management and sustainable development Have experience of working in or with the third sector Can support the Fund's development and delivery of its commitment to social justice and social impact Take a collaborative approach to working with others Are comfortable being challenged and to challenge in a constructive manner Can act as an advocate for the fund and its objectives Commitments and Considerations The SSE Renewables Sustainable Development Fund Panel will meet approximately twice each year, corresponding with funding rounds and fund planning requirements. Members will need to allow up to two to three days per meeting (a total of up to 6 days per year), to read panel papers and attend panel meetings. Panel meetings will be held in person (usually in Perth or Glasgow), online or hybrid. The length of term for a panel member is 3 years, up to a maximum of two terms or 6 years. The remuneration for this post will be £4,000 per annum. More about the Sustainable Development Fund Projects supported by the Sustainable Development Fund will meet one or more of the following outcomes: Creating opportunities Empowering communities Sustainable places In addition, from 2025, all grant applicants are expected to consider how their project supports the following overarching ambitions of the Panel: How the project will help the region in its journey towards a net zero future. For example, by improving energy efficiency, reducing waste, or delivering services in a way that reduces or removes the use of fossil fuels. How the project will build the knowledge, skills and experience that the third sector needs to support a sustainable region. For example, by developing and enhancing social enterprises, improving the sustainability of community assets, or increasing collaboration between community projects / services. The Sustainable Development Fund celebrated 10 years of delivery in November 2023. Over this period, £13.5m was invested in almost 240 community projects across the above regions.
