Job Purpose
As an Area Deployed Engineer, you will provide proactive support to Operations as part of a multi-disciplinary team, responding to events and incidents at sites predominantly in the Cumbria region. You will provide mechanical engineering support including mechanical design and technical advice, identifying mitigations and helping to define long-term solutions to maintain wastewater quality and treatment compliance. You will be responsible for the delivery of a range of investigations and projects, including data gathering and analysis, notional and outline solution design, and preparation and/or review of documents, drawings and specifications.
You will be embedded in our Operational business area and therefore will be required to work from site, predominantly at UU wastewater locations in the North of the region for at least 4 days per week. You will be line managed by a Principal Mechanical Engineer but will take day-to-day direction from the Cumbria County Engineering Manager.
Job Accountabilities
* Providing support to Field Service Engineers, Process Controllers, Scientists and Technical Officers
* Converting operational and strategic requirements into deliverable engineering solutions
* Producing and reviewing appropriate design requirements documents to meet United Utilities' objectives
* Collaborating with and maintaining strong relationships across engineering, the wider UU business, and external partners
* Ownership of standards relating to mechanical assets
* Ensuring all activities undertaken and engineering outputs provided are in accordance with legislation, accepted best practice, and relevant technical standards
* Maintaining and developing discipline engineering expertise and acting as Subject Matter Expert within areas of competence
* Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements throughout the whole asset/project lifecycle
* As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you may be given line management responsibilities
Knowledge and Skills
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration and full member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers or equivalent experience
* Strong technical competence and leadership skills, coupled with high levels of emotional intelligence
* Experience in delivering projects and providing operational support in the water industry or other sectors for optimum TOTEX
* Excellent understanding of UK and International technical legislation, standards, best practice, health & safety requirements
* Familiarity with assets associated with wastewater treatment
* Bioresource, sludge or gas experience would be advantageous, but is not essential
* Full driving licence
