* We are seeking to appoint a Business Office Support Apprentice for a position in our Environment and Transport team.
* The ideal candidate will be required to speak English to an appropriate standard and we ask for a professional attitude to work and a willingness to learn and take responsibility.
* You will assist the team in the business administration duties of the Growth and Sustainability service.
* You will be employed by Barnsley Metropolitan Council starting at NJC Grade 3, and as an apprentice with the Council, you will be fully supported to develop your skills, experience and undertake a Level 3 Business Administration qualification with Barnsley College.
* Please note that candidates who already hold a Level 3 Business Admin diploma or a higher qualification in business will not be eligible to apply.
Typical Duties:
* Administration duties – provide Business Support to managers of the Council, enabling them to fulfil their role effectively while managing interruptions and conflicting demands.
* Customer service - Handle email and face-to-face enquiries, providing advice, guidance, and support to both internal and external stakeholders across the service.
* Data management – Process enquiries, requests, and applications and maintain accurate records.
* Meeting support - Organise and support statutory meetings, including minute-taking and liaising with stakeholders.
* Financial administration - Manage financial tasks such as placing orders and processing invoices.
* Collaborations - Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to maintain effective communication links.
* Legislation awareness - Keep up-to-date with relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures.
* System development - Contribute to the development and review of systems and procedures to ensure efficient service administration.
You Will Need:
* GCSE Mathematics and English language at Grades 4-9 or above, plus one of the following:
* 260 points with at least 160 from two GCE/VCE A levels or equivalent BTEC National qualifications. General studies and AS levels may count towards these points.
* Experience of working within a business support environment.
* Proven experience of working and processing with highly confidential and sensitive information.
* Good communication skills (written and verbal).
* Proficient use of Microsoft Office.
* Attention to detail.
* Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
