Royal Quays Marina
Nestled in the heart of North Shields, Royal Quays Marina is more than just a place to dock your boat, it’s a vibrant community for boaters and maritime enthusiasts alike. We are committed to providing exceptional service and creating unforgettable experiences for all who visit our marina. Our marina boasts state-of-the-art facilities designed to cater to the needs of every boater. We offer 400 fully serviced berths, accommodating a wide range of vessels, including sailing yachts, motorboats, fishing boats, and commercial vessels. Our on-site amenities include modern shower and laundry facilities, free Wi-Fi, and 24/7 security, ensuring your stay is comfortable and secure.
The Assistant Marina Manager supports the Marina Manager in overseeing marina operations and deputises in their absence. This role requires a proactive, practical individual committed to maintaining high operational standards, training and mentoring staff, and providing exceptional customer care. Responsibilities include optimising berth occupancy, driving customer retention, and attracting new business through outstanding customer service.
Key responsibilities
* Act as the designated on-call manager outside of normal working hours on a rota basis, responding to operational issues or emergencies as required.
* Deputise fully for the Marina Manager during periods of leave or absence, assuming full site responsibility including team management, financial oversight, customer service, and operational performance.
* Line manage the Berthing and Boatyard team overseeing daily operations, rotas, performance, and development.
* Foster a positive work environment, motivating, mentoring, and training staff to build a high-performing team.
* Act as the Marina’s Health and Safety Champion, ensuring compliance with the company’s health and safety policies and environmental standards.
* Regularly update risk assessments and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
* Ensure the safe operation, maintenance, and compliance of marina infrastructure.
* Maximise berth occupancy through strategic allocation of berthing and proactive customer retention initiatives.
* Work collaboratively with the Marina Manager and Marina Administrator to effectively manage debtor accounts.
* Assist in planning, organising, and executing customer and community events to enhance retention and attract new business.
Core Competencies
* Strong health and safety awareness; IOSH Level 2/ Managing Safely certification or above desirable.
* Knowledge of marina and lock operations or General Marine Operations is essential.
* RYA qualifications, particularly Powerboat Level 2 (or above) and VHF Short Range Certificate (or above) are desirable.
* Ability to swim is essential.
* Excellent interpersonal skills; professional, polite, and resilient under pressure.
* Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills, capable of prioritising tasks proactively.
Working Hours and Environment
The working hours are 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, however, there may be a requirement to work some weekends during the year, depending on business requirements.
