Job Purpose
The Head of Finance plays a key role at the college. This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an outstanding sixth form college. We are looking for the successful candidate to build on the strengths of the team and improve financial systems and processes. We prepare monthly accounts in line with best practice and statutory accounts complying with the FE/HE SORP. The Senior Leadership Team relies on timely and reliable financial reporting. The Governing Body expects high standards of financial management, compliance, and value-for-money. It supports staff, budget holders, and students. The Head of Finance will oversee financial planning, compliance, and system improvements as well as working closely with senior leaders and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will manage and oversee a team of six.
Main Responsibilities
1. Provide effective management and leadership for the Finance Team.
2. Manage the functions of the Finance Team including accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, online payments, general ledger, cash holdings, and control accounts.
3. Maintain relationships with external stakeholders including the Colleges bank.
4. Take responsibility for the administration of the Colleges use of finance system.
5. Implement improvements in the Colleges use of the finance system.
6. Support budget holders in budgetary control and provide user-friendly and timely financial reports for budget holders and management.
7. Advise senior leaders on key financial matters.
8. Develop and oversee financial policies and procedures.
9. Ensure robust and effective financial controls are in place and complied with at the College.
10. Ensure that all College income is maximised for the benefit of the students.
11. Lead the budget-setting and financial forecasting processes.
12. Monitor spend against budget in order to inform strategic decisions.
13. Provide financial management to the Abacus Maths Hub and other initiatives that the College participates in.
14. Undertake financial analysis of College activities including the work with Higher Education and initiatives such as T-Levels.
15. Support year-end accounting and audit processes for the College.
16. Take responsibility for the timely and efficient preparation and submission of financial returns to the regulatory bodies.
17. Ensure timely implementation of recommendations from Audit and Assurance Reports.
18. Ensure any tax obligations are discharged correctly and effectively.
19. Undertake such duties that may be assigned commensurate with the grade and overall responsibility level of the post and as changing circumstances may require.
