Job summary
The Ventilation Inpatient Centre is a 12 bedded unit which provides care to the acutely unwell adult in respiratory distress. This can range from providing non-invasive ventilation to patients in Type 2 Respiratory failure to dealing with adults with more complex health needs.
The unit comprises of four Tracheostomy weaning beds and takes regional referrals to assist in the weaning process from tracheostomy ventilation to possible decannulation. We also specialise in providing care to patients with a wide range of neuromuscular diseases including motor neuron disease and Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Our respiratory service is expanding, with plans to provide another 2 respiratory enhanced care beds. The respiratory unit offers a supportive and learning environment which endeavours to constantly develop the service, so our patients can receive the highest quality and most up-to-date care. The Unit welcomes and will support both newly qualified and experienced Registered Nurses. You must possess a caring, compassionate, and positive manner and have excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will be expected to rotate from day to night duty.

Job responsibilities
1. Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.
2. Determine nursing priorities and plan patient care. Inform the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care.
3. Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust Guidelines.
4. Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit.
5. Ensure due regard is given to customs, values, and spiritual beliefs of patients.
6. Provide information and support to patients/carers, ensuring all those involved in the care are aware of changes in this patient's condition.
7. Assist in the safe custody, checking, and administration of drugs.
8. Develop clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via both planned and unplanned routes.
