Taylor Woodrow is recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager to lead all health and safety activities across London, Essex and Kent. Based out of our offices in Watford or Southwark, the Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for projects across the region. These include regeneration schemes, junction improvements and infrastructure upgrades across various energy and rail projects with values of £2m-£20m.
Duties
1. Initiate and maintain positive measures to raise standards, ensuring the company complies with OHSAS 18001 obligations, health & safety legislation and all minimum health & safety standards (MSS).
2. Support the monitoring of sites through the audit process, in a proactive manner to address any issues.
3. Establish a system to ensure that all personnel on site, to work or to visit, have received a site induction briefing before going on site. Ensure the induction is regularly updated to reflect current site hazards/conditions.
4. Ensure effective investigations take place to prevent accidents & incidents, whilst ensuring effective learning from all events are presented to the head of HSEQ for wider business distribution.
5. Ensure a construction phase health & safety plan is prepared and accepted before works start and make sure the plan is continually updated.
6. Introduce initiatives to improve standards and ensure safe working, whilst focusing on the proactive side of health & safety management.
7. Identify, promote and where required, implement health & safety best practice.
8. Participate in supporting the business with regards to tenders and pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQ’s) and tender submissions, as designated by Senior Safety Manager/Preconstruction Team.
9. Work with the supply chain to establish effective relationships and ensure continuous improvement in delivering safety solutions.
10. In cases of difference of opinion on health & safety issues, lead negotiations to reach the best solution for the project.
11. Ensure a schedule of weekly health & safety inspections is established and monitored, including operational staff, senior management and support services.
12. Ensure effective assessments of the site are carried out prior to the start of any work, focusing on potential hazards e.g. services, access, ground conditions, etc.
Person Specification
1. Previous experience as a Health and Safety Manager working on a major infrastructure project.
2. Degree or equivalent in a construction related subject.
3. NEBOSH and/or IOSH.
