The Executive Director of Global Packaging, Labelling, Distribution and Comparators (PLDC) is a critical leadership role within Clinical Supply Chain, responsible for the strategic direction and operational oversight of the Clinical Packaging, Labelling, Distribution, Comparators and Collaborations, supporting Phase I through IV GSK sponsored clinical studies as well as investigator sponsored trials and compassionate use programs for all Medicine and Vaccine portfolio. PLDC teams are based in the UK, US and Belgium.
This is an extremely varied and fast-paced area of the business, offering the successful candidate a true breadth of leadership and operational experience. The position requires CMC technical knowledge, but also significant strategic leadership and track record of delivery of complex transformational projects. You will need to be collaborative, flexible, resilient, and adaptable as a result, but success will lead to playing a key role in the delivery of our innovative pipeline working in partnership with functions throughout the global GSK network ensuring flawless delivery of investigational medicines and vaccines to patients and enabling GSK R&D registration & launch milestones.
This is a highly technical, dynamic, and impactful role where you will be working alongside a collaborative team of fellow CSC leaders, all with a shared focus on delivering our Ambition for Patients. It is a high priority to accelerate the integration of silks and capabilities across Medicines and Vaccines, driving the digital and operational modernization of the clinical supply chain. And in parallel support the development of individuals and teams ensuring their knowledge and capability is most efficiently deployed on priorities for the business and our patients.
Reporting to VP Global Head Clinical Supply Chain the role is to drive acceleration of the Clinical Supply Chain Packaging, Labelling, Distribution, Comparators and Collaborations by utilizing science, technology, and talent.
Key Responsibilities:
The role is accountable for the strategic direction and operational oversight of the R&D Global Clinical Supply Chain Packaging, Labelling, Distribution, Comparators and Collaborations functions by:
* Effectively leading, developing, motivating, inspiring a global team of ca100FTEs, including 5-8 direct reports and leadership team heading up five functional areas.
* Leading a global Clinical Packaging, Labelling, Distribution, Comparators and Collaborations function that supports the GSK Vaccine and Medicine portfolio, including GxP internal operations and oversight of external PLDC operations.
* Providing Leadership and coordination across line, region, and country-based professionals to ensure consistency of approach and Supply Continuity.
* Effectively leading the safety, quality, and performance of all internal and external operations to deliver IMP, Comparators and Ancillaries (where required) to Clinical depots and sites.
* Providing leadership and partnership with colleagues in Clinical Development, GSC, CSC, MDS and the CMC board to deliver and accelerate the GSK Portfolio.
* Develop and deliver the Global Clinical Supply Chain strategy with the CSCLT to deliver the GSK R&D ambition.
* Ensure deployment of modernized Digital platforms in support of the Modernisation of clinical supply chain
* Ensure all supply solutions are effectively planned and compliantly executed RFT, meeting OTD targets driving efficient utilization of FTEs, fixed assets, and revenue expenditure.
Job related Experience:
* Highly credible with broader CMC community and with senior stakeholders across GSK, with strong knowledge of CMC, Clinical operations, QA, regulatory, and cross modality therapeutic landscapes.
* Proven record of being able to influence internal and external stakeholders on challenging medicine development, reimbursement, and product-stewardship issues
* Able to operate effectively in a range of external settings, such as working with co-development partners, consulting with external experts, or representing GSK at high-profile regulatory meetings.

* Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or business-related discipline or a related field with applicable experience
* Extensive years in industry with several years of leadership and influence demonstrated.
* Senior leader experience within the Pharmaceutical Industry, ideally in development and /or supply CMC activities supporting a range of different modalities.
* Demonstrable global functional leadership capability
* Expert knowledge of cross modality clinical demand drivers and critical success factors
* Demonstrable understanding of clinical trial and supply Regulation and QA/ QP accountabilities
* Proficient knowledge of cross modality drug product development, manufacturing and supply drivers and critical success drivers
* Experience working with third parties and developing effective relationships.
* Ability to effectively with key stakeholders at all levels of the organization both internally and externally.
* Drives strategic vision of the partnerships.
* Strong relationship builder with negotiation skills
* Thrives in a faced paced environment with potential for significant change.
* Ability to analyze trend and metrics data (especially related to quality, safety, technical requirements, and performance) to drive continuous improvement.
* Ability to effectively handle and appropriately escalate issues based on risk in a timely manner.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

* PhD or MBA
* Chartership/Technical professional license and or certification and / or MBA/Business education a key plus for the role
* Business Acumen - understands implications of decisions from a broad business perspective and uses this knowledge to influence decision-making at the highest levels of R&D and with external partners.
* Proven ability to drive process improvement in a matrix environment and with demonstrated leadership in the application of innovative approaches with portfolio-level impact.
* A strong sense of initiative, urgency, drive, pragmatism, and judgement – an ability to make things happen.
* Ability to deliver to demanding deadlines whilst maintaining the highest quality.
