Job summary
Housekeeper/Porter (Band 2) Worcestershire Acute NHS Hospital Trust Kidderminster Treatment Centre.
There are a wide range of day surgical patients visiting our busy operating department at Kidderminster Treatment Centre.
You will need to be flexible, adaptable, and have a real team ethic as you will be supporting the theatre team to maintain high standards of cleanliness for our patients and visitors. You will carry out general cleaning duties in all areas of the department using appropriate materials and will also be involved in portering duties including assisting staff in the transfer of patients, the movement, and storage of equipment, and ensuring the safe movement of specimens to other departments.
The post is full time (4 days) per week. Shifts start at 8am and finish at on three days with one day finish.
You will attend the Trust Clinical Induction Programme and a local induction in your work area. Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at enhanced level.
Main duties of the job
1. Clean allocated work area to the agreed standards and frequencies as detailed in work schedules.
2. Carry out specialised cleaning tasks; including isolation rooms, theatres etc. to agreed standards and wearing correct PPE as required.
3. Assist with moving HSDU trolleys both to and from Theatres, storing them as policy.
4. Record information so that accurate records of processes are maintained.
5. Follow instructions and suggest changes in working practices.
6. Undertake the safe removal of body fluid spillages in public and communal areas in line with policy/guidelines.
7. Act as a mentor for newly appointed staff, providing on-job training and instructions.
8. Clean using the correct method, equipment, and materials.
9. Remove waste from work area and place at collection points in line with departmental procedure.
10. Assist with the safe movement of specimens and specimen bags for collection and redistribution.
11. Comply with the Trust Infection Control policies and procedures.
12. Use mechanical equipment as required.
13. Report defective equipment to the team leader/department lead and estates.
14. Use all cleaning chemicals in a safe and appropriate manner.
15. Work at heights as required.
16. Assist with the collection and storage of gas cylinders.
17. Assist with appropriate audits and water flushing according to policy.
18. Participate in annual personal development review and unit meetings.

Job responsibilities
Key Working Relationships:
Ward and Departmental staff; patients and visitors.
Job Purpose:
To assist in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors. To carry out general cleaning duties in all areas of the department and to apply specialist-cleaning methods using appropriate materials and equipment where necessary.
Key Duties:

8. Act as a mentor for newly appointed staff, providing on-job training and instruction.
9. Wear the correct PPE at all times and in line with IPCT guidelines.
10. Clean using the correct method, equipment, and materials.
11. Remove waste from work area and place at collection points in line with departmental procedures.
12. Undertake the cleaning of all surfaces including edges, ledges, fixtures, and fittings.
13. Undertake the cleaning of all hard and soft floors using the correct method and equipment.
14. Clean sanitary areas using the correct method and equipment.
15. Carry out high and low level cleaning using the correct method and equipment.
16. Assist with the safe movement of specimens and specimen bags for collection and redistribution.
17. Ensure that all work is carried out in a safe manner and hazard warning signs are displayed.
18. Comply with the Trust Infection Control policies and procedures.
19. Use mechanical equipment as required.
20. Report defective equipment to the team leader/department lead and estates.
21. Clean equipment after use.
22. Use all cleaning chemicals in a safe and appropriate manner.
23. Work at heights as required.
24. Clean ventilation grilles and light fittings.
25. Assist with the collection and storage of gas cylinders.
26. Assist with appropriate audits and water flushing according to policy.
