Job Description
Overview:
The Senior Risk Manager will be based on a hybrid basis from one of our stunning offices, meaning either central London or Leeds city centre, so you'll need to be within a commutable distance to ensure you can commute to the office each week, enabling you to work on a face to face basis with the team and the wider business.
You will support the Head of Risk EMA in implementing, monitoring and enhancing the Group Risk Management Framework. You'll be part of the Risk and Compliance team and will provide an independent assessment of all risks; proactively communicating and engaging with our senior stakeholders within the business to assist with identifying, analysing, mitigating, managing and monitoring the risks that arise. The Senior Risk Manager will provide an independent assessment of risks, assisting the business to ensure adequate and effective controls are in operation for the management of risks, in line with the Group Appetite Statement.

What you need:
As with any role, we want to find the right person and we want to make sure you know it's the right role for you too. You will need:
1. In-depth knowledge and demonstrable experience of best practice risk management methodologies and emerging practice in financial services, including in relation to operational resilience
2. Demonstrable experience of operating in a highly regulated environment
3. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels and inspire confidence, whilst influencing and motivating others
4. A personal commitment to risk policies and the Group code of conduct, including a demonstrated, pragmatic approach to risk management
5. Strong commercial acumen, with a sound understanding of business models
6. Sound judgement, a progressive mindset, resilience, adaptability and authenticity, with an openness and energy, enabling you to work closely with the business
7. Experience in the deployment of leading risk practices
8. The ability to prioritise, with a track record of setting and achieving objectives
9. Problem-solving, decision-making skills and numeracy skills, with the ability to analyse complex information in a way that drives resolution
Nice to have:
1. A qualification in Risk or a related field is desirable, but not essential, combined with ongoing professional development such as post-graduate or vocational study
2. Knowledge and experience of cyber security would be beneficial but is not mandatory
Day to Day, you will:
1. Assist with embedding the Group Risk Appetite Statement within the MUFG Corporate Markets business, providing accurate and timely advice on risk matters to key stakeholders
2. Deputise for the Head of Risk EMEA and Senior Leadership Team as required
3. Manage stakeholder engagement and take responsibility for developing, implementing, monitoring and enhancing the risk frameworks in the MUFG Corporate Markets business, collaboratively assisting with the achievement of their strategic roles
4. Work with the Functional Business, Functional Heads and Operational Risk to identify, analyse, mitigate, manage and monitor risks, providing challenge as and when appropriate
5. Work collaboratively with the broader Group Risk & Compliance team, Line 1 Risk / Operational integrity teams and other Group functions to support the business to embed an effective risk culture
6. Drive good governance practices, including the assessment and reporting of timely metrics, opinion papers and ad hoc reviews to MUFG Corporate Markets Senior Management, board and RiskCo
7. Support the development of junior colleagues within the Risk & Compliance team, demonstrating positive role model behaviour
8. Ensure the Group Risk framework is localised (where applicable) and implemented, including the execution and monitoring of legislative and regulatory obligations
9. Actively collaborate with peers to further develop a leading global Risk and Compliance function, becoming an important member of the global Senior Risk and Compliance Managers (MUFG Corporate Markets) group
10. Be a key Risk SME on new CM projects and initiatives, offering clear and concise 2LoD oversight and challenge, offering opinions throughout the lifecycle of the project and undertaking risk assurance reviews
11. Review Risk Management related policies and procedures to ensure the business are compliant in meeting their regulatory requirements and proactive support is provided to assist 1LoD, effectively managing their Risk and Control environment
12. Initiate periodic Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA's) processes with the business, ensuring controls as described, are operating as intended and control failures are reported and managed
13. Play a leading role in defining and embedding a sustainable culture of risk awareness which is consistent with the Group's core values
14. Attend relevant industry events, ensuring emerging issues and risks are identified and communicated to the team and where appropriate, to the Senior Management team within the business
