A B Corp Environmental Consultancy seeks an experienced Director of Policy and Public Affairs to drive policy initiatives and elevate its industry presence. This pivotal role will shape strategic business priorities, engage with key stakeholders, and position the company as a leading voice on waste, resources, climate, and circular economy policy. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of environmental regulations, particularly Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Deposit Return Schemes (DRS), recycling policies, and sustainability frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and execute policy strategies aligned with business goals, balancing people, planet, and profit.
* Engage with government bodies, regulators, and industry organisations to influence policy and raise the company’s profile.
* Provide expert policy insight, market analysis, and strategic recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Conduct horizon scanning on UK and international legislative developments and devise strategies accordingly focusing on key risks and opportunities for all stakeholders
* Represent the organisation at industry events, conferences, and meetings as a speaker, advocate, and networker.
* Build and maintain relationships with key industry bodies, fostering collaboration and driving transformational change.
* Lead and mentor colleagues, supporting their professional development and ensuring delivery of organisational objectives.
* Act as the company spokesperson on policy matters, engaging with media and leading public awareness campaigns.
* Oversee policy consultations, identifying risks and opportunities, and setting strategic responses.
* Work closely with the marketing team to craft messaging that effectively conveys policy positions to diverse audiences.
Key Requirements:
Essential:
* In-depth knowledge of legislative, regulatory, and policy-making processes.
* Proven track record of developing and executing successful policy and advocacy strategies.
* Strong communication, negotiation, and public speaking skills.
* Analytical expertise to assess complex policy issues and craft innovative solutions.
* Leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
* High emotional intelligence, resilience, and strategic decision-making capabilities.
* Passion for environmental sustainability and a purpose-driven business ethos.
Desirable:
* Board-level experience
