About the role: As an experienced IT 2nd Line Engineer, supporting the IT Operations Manager and working within an office-based team. You will be part of the 2nd line team helping the IT user community with any IT-related issues, problems, incidents or requests. You will have a willingness to learn, grow and share knowledge to ensure that the team provides service excellence to the Hills user community. You may also be required to work on specific projects within the Technology Transformation Programme and share the knowledge and skills you acquire with the rest of the team. Your key responsibilities as our IT 2nd Line Engineer will include: • Assess, troubleshoot and support resolving server and end user computing issues using known troubleshooting methodologies. • Help to develop processes and methods of operating that confirm to ITIL disciplines. • Work from or travel to company sites to provide IT support as required, the department has a dedicated IT van. • Ensure that all work carried out for users is recorded in the in-house systems, that work is correctly attributed which enables us to accurately demonstrate performance of the service to the business units. • Maintain a level of technical competence that remains current and fit for purpose and highlighting any training needs to the IT Operations Manager, while participating in training other members of the team to increase overall knowledge and competencies, improving the levels of service. What we’re looking for in our IT 2nd Line Engineer : Technical knowledge of the following – • Strong knowledge of Windows Servers, Microsoft 365, Active Directory and VMWare. • Hands-on demonstrable experience with server infrastructure and networking; LAN, vLAN, WAN, VPN’s etc. • Microsoft Intune & Defender Other requirements – • Driving licence and own transport – essential • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly and plainly explain complex situations. • High attention to detail and organisational skills. Please note, this is an office-based role and not a hybrid position, there is requirement for you to work from our head office in Swindon, as well as occasionally working at our sites across Wiltshire and the surrounding areas. Hours for this role are on a rotating rota basis between the hours of 7am and 6pm, as well as to cover bank holidays (excluding Christmas/Boxing Day/New Years Day). Also, there is requirement to carry out patching in the evenings which is managed on a rota basis. Working hours are 7am - 3.30pm / 8.30am-5pm / 9.30am-6pm.
