Job Title: Toolmaker / Manual Machinist

We are seeking an experienced Skilled Machinist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up and operating conventional machine tools to fabricate parts and assemblies in accordance with provided drawings and specifications. Precision, quality, and efficiency are key as you contribute to meeting production timelines.
Key Responsibilities – Toolmaker / Manual Machinist
Set up and operate a range of conventional machine tools, including centre lathes, capstan lathes, manual mills, and pillar drills
Perform calculations to determine optimal feed rates and speeds for each job
Manufacture components to meet the required standards within set cycle times
Utilize shop equipment, hand tools, and precision measurement instruments
Self-inspect finished items to ensure compliance with technical drawings and specifications
Complete machine safety checks and daily maintenance checklists
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members
Identify and suggest improvements to enhance product quality and reduce costs
Collaborate with other departments to ensure production goals are met
Ensure adherence to company policies and safety regulations
Promote a safe and efficient working environment
Record time against assigned tasks
Take on additional duties as needed
Qualifications & Requirements – Toolmaker / Manual Machinist
Completed a recognized apprenticeship or a national technical training program
City & Guilds or NVQ qualification in a relevant technical field
Strong experience in turning and milling operations, with a solid understanding of materials and their applications
Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings
High level of attention to detail to ensure precise and accurate work
Proficient in the use of hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as micrometres and callipers
In-depth understanding of machine tool operations and safety protocols
