Main Duties of the Job
This post offers an excellent opportunity to gain Senior Clinical Fellow level and above experience within the rapidly changing field of Neuropsychiatry.
1. The Clinical Fellow will be responsible for delivery of up to 3 FND clinics per week.
2. Participate in the weekly FND inpatient programme ward round.
3. Review inpatient referrals with consultant supervision.
4. Support the FND Liaison Practitioner with their outpatient clinics.
There is no on-call commitment in the post.

The appointment is based within the Neurology Service at North Bristol NHS Trust. We provide a patient-centred multidisciplinary service. Our Neurology department is caring, diverse, and ambitious with a shared vision to strive for excellence. We treat patients within all aspects of Neurology.
The Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) service offers outpatient clinics that attract local and national referrals, a 3-week inpatient programme for people with FND, and a novel in-reach liaison service to patients with FND in the Emergency Department and on acute medical, surgical, obstetric, and gynaecological wards.
Outpatient clinics are held at Southmead Hospital in the Rosa Burden Centre. This unit also accommodates the inpatient programme.
Our department consists of 4 Consultants, 2 Specialty Doctors, and a dedicated therapies team.
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
The main aim of the post is to provide post-CCT training for neurologists/psychiatrists in Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) to develop independent practice in this field. The Clinical Fellow will work within the multi-disciplinary FND team to provide care for people with FND. They will have exposure to all elements of an optimal care pathway for FND and gain competency to offer specialist assessments and treatment planning for people with FND. There will be opportunities to attend related clinics, for example, in movement disorders, epilepsy, sleep, and cognitive disorders. The Clinical Fellow will be supervised primarily by Dr. Mallam (consultant neurologist) and also by members of the neuropsychiatry team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MRCP or MRCPsych
* Full GMC registration
* Completed or near to completion of Neurology or Psychiatry training (within 12 months of the expected date of CCT or equivalent on taking up the post).
* Within six months of the expected date of CCT (or equivalent) on the day of interview.
Experience
* Completed pre-registration year (or equivalent outside UK).
* Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems & practices (or equivalent).
* Minimum of 2 years experience as SHO (or equivalent).
* Wide experience in all aspects of neurology or psychiatry.
* Candidates should have completed Higher Professional Training or an equivalent, and be in possession of a CCT, or about to obtain a CCT, or be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register as a Specialist in neurology or psychiatry.
* 4 months experience as SHO in neurology/stroke.
* Neuropsychiatry experience during neurology or psychiatry training.
Management and Leadership
* Competent in history taking and examination skills.
* Experience of day-to-day organisation of neurology or psychiatry services in a busy teaching hospital.
* Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams.
* Experience reading EEGs.
Communication / Personal Skills
* Able to communicate effectively with patients and their relatives.
* Able to establish good working relationships with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
* Effective communicator, able to work in a close-knit team and cooperate with all medical and paramedical staff.
* Flexible and resilient.
* Professional attitude towards work, reliability, good record of attendance, and tidy personal appearance.
* Able to demonstrate an understanding of NBT Values.

* Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.
Research / Publications
* Demonstrate interest in research.
* Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed audit/quality improvement projects.
* Experience of conducting or supporting clinical research.
* Evidence of contribution to published research.
* Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of Neuropsychiatry.
* Audit or QI experience in neuropsychiatry.
Clinical Audit
* Participated in an audit or quality improvement project.
* Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching.
* Teaching skills course/qualification.
