Job summary A new vacancy has arisen within University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust for a part time Band 6 Paediatric Nutritional Care Clinical Nurse Specialist. This permanent vacancy is for 23.25 hours per week and a great opportunity for personal and clinical skill development. The successful candidate will be required to work in collaboration with our Paediatric Consultant team, existing clinical nurse specialists, paediatric Dietitians, children's services staff, children, young people and their families. The role will predominantly deliver care and support to babies, children and young people with home enteral feeding needs across our hospital sites and within their own homes/ communities. We work closely with other specialists in and out of the hospital setting such as paediatricians, community nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians, pharmacists, other Clinical Nurse Specialists and GPs to ensure we are always providing the best possible care. We are looking for a highly motivated children's nurse who has experience with children and young people, training and educating parents/ carers and has a good understanding and experience of working with children with long term enteral feeding needs. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent skills in communication, organisation and time management and will be expected to participate in and deliver regular clinical supervision, Appraisal and NMC Revalidation. Main duties of the job Our Paediatric nutritional care service provides friendly, timely and high-quality care to babies, children and young people who have long term nutrition support needs. An empathetic and problem-solving approach is essential when assessing and planning nasogastric and gastrostomy care. An ability to multi-task, effectively manage your own time and to co-ordinate the delivery of different care processes is essential. We administer and teach parents/ carers to administer home enteral feeds and where applicable we compile comprehensive care, and escalation plans in partnership with the Dietetic service. An ability to supervise others, teach and assess competency are essential. The nursing team works closely with a number of Paediatric, neonatal and community team and attend appropriate MDT meetings for both Paediatric and Neonatal services. Transition is a key period of change for our young people, and this is planned and supported by the nursing team. Good communication and the ability to work well across different teams is essential. Our specialist nurses proactively support patients and families with the emotional aspects of their condition, helping them to understand it and empowering them to deal with it effectively in their own environments.
