CONSULTANT INREHABILITATION MEDICINE
Applications are invited for a consultant post in Neurorehabilitation or Rehabilitation Medicine at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHFT). The OUHFT comprises four hospitals: John Radcliffe, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Churchill Hospital and the Horton General Hospital.
The post is primarily based at the Oxford Centre for Enablement (OCE), which is located at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre campus in Headington, but will involve clinical responsibilities on the Churchill and the John Radcliffe Hospital sites. OCE is a specialist rehabilitation centre with an international reputation for excellence. It has an active research partnership with both Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University. There are 18 NHS England Specialist Commissioned Level 1 inpatient beds, a dynamic outpatient multidisciplinary rehabilitation service, a tertiary referral multimodal spasticity service, prosthetics service, specialist seating and disability equipment services.
There will be opportunities for the successful applicants to develop their own areas of interest which may include management of patients with disorders of consciousness, prosthetics, major trauma, spasticity, Cerebral Palsy or long term neurological conditions. Consultants in post at present are Dr Anton Pick (Clinical Lead), Dr Ahmad Saif, Dr Sophie Frey and Dr Susannah Brain along with two locum consultants.
Applications are welcome from physicians trained in Rehabilitation Medicine, Neurology, Stroke Medicine / Elderly Care or Psychiatry with demonstrated interest and experience in neurological rehabilitation and from those looking to combine clinical work with a research career or educational interest. Clinical
The post-holder’s duties will be primarily at the Oxford Centre for Enablement (OCE).
Out-of-hours cover will be provided to the OCE. As such, the new consultants will be required to be reachable by telephone at their own residence and to reside within one hour’s travelling time from the OCE. Currently, consultants cover the OCE for blocks of one week at a time. This is equivalent to one in six.
