The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody. Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending. We are looking for an Operations Manager with experience of working within a secure environment. The successful candidate must be certified as a Custody Officer and will be responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operational delivery of the Centre which will include incident management/reporting, briefing and updating the Duty Director and supervise the admission and re-admission of Young people. Key Responsibilities Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner and following the applicable safe systems of work for the role. Be responsible for the timely operational running of the centre, overseeing all moves around site, such as education and activities, (this list is not exhaustive) Supervise the movements to and from the dining room, including attendance for the duration of meals Understand the differing duties of Oscar 1 and Oscar 2 Attend and manage all incidents across site, ensuring all incident paperwork and Security Information Reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner for that day before leaving site. Ensure all incident paperwork is complete and correct prior to submitting to the MMPR team Be familiar with understanding the process for addressing staff that have not completed their incident paperwork in a timely manner Be competent in completing paperwork for emergency escorting, and discharging and receiving any escort or mobility to and from court, hospital, funeral (this list is not exhaustive) Ensure all serious incident reports (IRFs) are completed by staff involved in the incident, are accurate and authorised by the Duty Director prior to being sent to the relevant departments, and SIRs submitted Visit residential units regularly and more specifically to ensure that any young people who are to remain in their rooms have been authorised by the Duty Director and on RFA and that all paperwork has been completed, that they have been seen by Healthcare and an algorithm raised. Participate in the initial risk assessment of any child during the admissions process Work closely with the Duty Director of the day ensuring they are kept briefed and updated of any incidents or potential risks that may impact on the centre, or need reporting to the YCS, I/C of the Center or Gold Commander Support and assist Security with any immediate searching that needs completing Ensure SIRs are checked and taken to security in the absence of security staff Delivering training to staff to the ITC to educate new staff about the Oscar role The duties and responsibilities listed within this job description are not exhaustive and the job holder is expected to accept reasonable alterations and additional tasks, of a similar level that may be necessary from time to time.
