About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Facilities Technician to provide general maintenance across college buildings, services, and the estate. Responsibilities include internal and external decoration, changing light bulbs and tubes, preventative maintenance such as clearing blocked gutters and drains, fixing shelves, installing notice boards, and performing basic repairs on door locks, thumb turns, and toilet seats. The role also involves carrying out scheduled compliance tasks, including emergency lighting checks, fire extinguisher and alarm inspections, and water testing, while accurately recording results in facility management software.
Additionally, the technician will perform site operational duties as part of a rota team, including unlocking and locking buildings, keeping the site clean, managing waste and recycling, setting up rooms, moving furniture, and handling health and safety inspections. Training and professional development will be provided to ensure adherence to statutory requirements. Other reasonable duties may be assigned by the line manager as needed.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision, using their initiative to solve problems as they arise. They should be physically fit to carry out manual tasks, including the use of ladders, and have a flexible attitude towards change. A strong customer-focused approach is essential, along with a helpful and professional attitude in all interactions. The candidate must be a team player, capable of working effectively within an established team. Additionally, they should hold a full, valid driving license and be willing to obtain a PCV license.
Experience with hand tools and industrial power tools is required, while previous maintenance experience, awareness of Health & Safety regulations, and a relevant maintenance qualification would be advantageous. The ability to interact confidently with a diverse range of staff within the college environment is also desirable.
Hours of Work
The role will follow a rotating shift pattern, alternating between two weeks of early shifts and two weeks of late shifts. Early shifts run from 06:30 to 11:30, while late shifts are from 13:00 to 18:00.
