Job Description:
Come and join one of the UK's largest independent providers in neuro and mental healthcare. We proudly employ over 4000+ people - no matter what your experience, we have jobs for everyone.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Specialty Doctor in Neurological Rehabilitation to join us on a 6 month fixed term contract at Woodlands Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in York.
The 27-bedded facility admits patients for post acute and ongoing rehabilitation and includes patients with traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, subarachnoid haemorrhage, acute and progressive and long-term neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis, encephalomyelitis, Guillain Barre Syndrome, cerebral palsy, Parkinson's disease and others. Each patient has an individual rehabilitation plan, which will include structured learning programmes, practicing daily living skills, community access skills, behavioral management techniques, social skills training and vocational training and support.
This Centre is designed to meet the needs of people who require post-acute rehabilitation, where patients will be admitted directly from neurosurgical or acute medical/surgical services.
The aim will be to provide a continuous link for each individual through their pathway of care from in-patient services through to re-integration into community. There is a unique combination of medical and clinical expertise to support individual patient goals in a fully-equipped and carefully designed living environment.
What you'll be doing:
* The postholder will be a Specialty Doctor within the Woodlands Centre. The duties will be essentially those required of an experienced doctor reporting directly to his/her Consultant and would include:
* Providing medical cover to the unit.
* The post is for 30-37.5 hours divided over five days Monday to Friday. This timetable will be in consultation with the successful candidate.
* The postholder will be supervised by and have access to the Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, who will be at the unit for a minimum of 1 day per week to support ward rounds and weekly team meetings.
* Providing advice to other staff and conducting audit work as required.
* Flexible use of time depending on the needs of the department.
* Training and education of nursing staff and medical students on ad-hoc basis.
* Responsible for keeping clear, full records to medico-legal standards.
* Communicating fully (subject to confidentiality and patient interests) with patients, their relatives, family doctors, and other health and social services colleagues.
* Undertaking additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, and being available for irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
* No current on-call commitment; however, this may change later, and the successful candidate would be expected to participate in any out-of-hours on-call requirements following consultation.
* This timetable is subject to review and may be amended in consultation with the postholder to reflect changing priorities.
What you'll have:
* At least 3 years postgraduate experience at SHO or higher level, with at least 1 year in General Medicine. A higher qualification is desirable.
* Experience of Rehabilitation Medicine, Medicine for the elderly, or Neurology is advantageous.
* Full registration with the General Medical Council and satisfactory medical and DBS checks are required. Applicants must declare their immigration status, if applicable.
We also want to ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable facilities to participate in job applications or interviews to perform essential job functions. To support this, we are a Disability Confident committed employer.
