This role will focus on:
As an apprentice aligned with the machine shop function, you will learn and develop the skills required to set, run, program, and maintain CNC machine tools. You will gain the necessary skills to operate different machine types, including Milling and Turning centers. During your apprenticeship, you will support multiple machines and eventually choose a specialization or become a multi-skilled CNC setter operator. You will be mentored by our CNC technicians, who will pass on their expertise in machining to support your studies. You will be responsible for your own quality, safety, and the safety of others.
What you’ll be doing:
* Developing skills needed to set and operate CNC machines.
* Learning about cutting tools, their uses, geometries, and grades.
* Developing a safety-first culture when operating machines, understanding risks and COSHH.
* Learning how to program and prove out components, including work holding and fixturing.
* Developing skills to use and understand different inspection equipment.
* Learning about continuous improvement, lean, and 5S methodologies.
* Conducting non-conformance investigations, including Root Cause analysis and Corrective Actions.
* Understanding and applying Watson Marlow values daily.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* An engineering aptitude demonstrated through previous learning.
* Good grades in mathematics and English.
* A willingness to learn.
* Good communication skills.
* The ability to commit to three years of training.
