We are seeking applications from experienced midwives to join the dynamic education team at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital which is part of Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The team includes a fetal wellbeing lead midwife, international pastoral support midwife, practice development midwives for international midwives, clinical practice facilitator and 3 practice development midwives.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will facilitate and coordinate the delivery of Maternity clinical skills and emergency skills training to the multi-professional maternity and obstetric teams. Provide the monitoring and reporting of all mandatory maternity training to support the attainment of NHSLA risk management standards.
Maintain a senior professional midwifery role within the maternity service, providing expert evidence-based care in daily practice acting as a role model to other staff.
Job responsibilities
Roles and responsibilities
1. Planning and coordination of the maternity clinical and emergency skills program in liaison with maternity clinical skills (MCS) team and head of midwifery (HOM).
2. Facilitate the development of maternity clinical and emergency skills for all midwifery and maternity support workers (MSW) in the maternity service.
3. Assist in the delivery of orientation training program for new maternity staffing and staff changing clinical areas in maternity service, ensuring that the appropriate training is offered and delivered.
4. Liaise with clinical leads and Health Roster to ensure staff resources are made available for training and development opportunities.
5. Ensure the communication and dissemination of training information related to educational offerings and Mandatory training to ensure attendance and timely completion of training requirements.
6. Embedding the MSW role in maternity service and supporting midwives to support and manage this integration of the MSW into maternity.
7. Ensure the maintenance of record of training and the production of reports for monitoring mandatory and other skills training.
8. Provide when necessary risk management training information and reports to the Maternity Safety groups.
9. In conjunction with the management team, participate in the short and long term strategic development of the service and educational requirements within maternity.
10. Attend any meetings appropriate to your area/role, ensuring effective communication within the team and leading on actions are undertaken and applications of recommendations into the training and education programmers.
11. Evaluate training delivery by the MCS team and make necessary changes following evidence-based educational models.
12. Coordinate and deliver in-situ live drills of maternity emergencies in partnership with Obstetrics lead clinician and audit the response. Where appropriate negotiate the implementation of changes as identified during live drill audits.
13. Support senior midwives to develop the educational facilitation skills to support teaching in the maternity departments.
14. In conjunction with the maternity leads for recruitment and retention and the learning support midwife, ensure all junior and student midwives educational and training needs are met.
15. Liaise with other specialist midwives to promote practice development and ensure effective systems for delivery of training within maternity and share information.
16. Support the future development initiatives in maternity providing development support for new or altered roles and practice.
17. Provide educational support for MSW undertaking the foundation degree and facilitate training requirements in the workplace.
18. Support the MSW recruitment process through identifying development needs.
19. Support the delivery of Excellence in Care certificate in conjunction with the Lead Nurse for Healthcare Assistant Development.
Maternity Clinical Service
1. To act as a clinical lead within the maternity service, providing expert midwifery care within the multidisciplinary team.
2. To act as an effective role model and demonstrate effective organizational and leadership skills.
3. Provide care within the philosophy of the maternity service and clinical areas.
4. Contribute to quality assurance and improved ways of working, incorporating evidenced-based practice.
5. Where appropriate lead on development of standards and audit for the implementation of changes to improve patient care delivery or patient safety.
6. To inform the Management team and supervisor of midwives (as appropriate) about conditions within maternity services and staffing levels that may affect safe service provision.
7. If appropriate to the role and training to line manage staff junior to your role, with the support from the management team.
8. Facilitate and provide training and education that supports the maintenance of the specialist, multidisciplinary service for women and their families.
9. To supervise the maintenance of stores and equipment and with due economy requisition supplies, repairs and replacement of equipment. To ensure all staff in appropriate areas make proper and economic use of equipment and supplies and teaching.
10. To promote and provide positive, professional leadership, including leadership of staff.
11. To support the MSW in skill development within the clinical area and act as a role model to the MSWs.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Senior Practicing midwife with evidence of practice in all areas of midwifery
* Evidence of post-registration education
* Teaching and assessing/mentor preparation qualification
* Degree level or equivalent experience
* Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Qualification
* NLS Instructor Status

* Experience of teaching clinical skills and competency assessments
