Hostel Support Worker

£13.50 to £14.00 per hour
Are you passionate about providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals experiencing homelessness? We are currently seeking compassionate and dedicated Hostel Workers to join our team at our clients hostel facility. This is an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable individuals and contribute to their journey towards stability.
Responsibilities:
1. Ensure the safety and well-being of residents by maintaining a secure and orderly environment within the hostel.
2. Provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for residents, promoting a sense of community and respect among all individuals.
3. Conduct intake procedures, including registration and orientation for new residents, ensuring they are familiar with the hostel rules and procedures.
4. Offer emotional support, active listening, and empathy to residents, addressing their immediate concerns and providing guidance when needed.
5. Collaborate with residents to identify their needs, goals, and aspirations, and assist them in developing individualized support plans.
6. Connect residents with appropriate resources and services, such as healthcare, employment support, and housing assistance, to help them progress towards independence.
7. Facilitate group activities, workshops, and life skills sessions to enhance residents' personal development, socialization, and self-sufficiency.
8. Respond promptly to any incidents or emergencies within the hostel, following established protocols and ensuring the safety of residents and staff.
9. Maintain accurate and confidential records of resident interactions, incidents, and support plans, adhering to data protection regulations and organizational policies.
10. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including colleagues, external agencies, and community partners, to provide comprehensive support and ensure residents' holistic well-being.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Previous experience in a similar role, such as hostel work, support work, or in a residential setting, is preferred.
2. Compassion and empathy towards individuals experiencing homelessness, with a commitment to providing non-judgmental support.
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish rapport with residents, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
4. Ability to actively listen, build trust, and engage with residents to support their personal growth and development.
5. Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and adapt to changing circumstances.
6. Knowledge of local resources, support services, and relevant legislation pertaining to homelessness and housing.
7. Basic computer literacy for record keeping and documentation purposes.
8. Flexibility in working hours, including availability for evening, overnight, and weekend shifts, to ensure 24/7 coverage and support for residents.
9. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical conduct at all times.
