Job Description:
The EH NWS Geophysics DL will be a key technical contributor and people manager of Geophysicists within the GSS Well Delivery Unit, providing support on the Well Delivery workflow as defined in BP Practice 100100. They will carry an assigned set of responsibilities that include applying technical standards across EH well delivery activity as well as people management and development of NWS Geophysicists. The intent of the role is to drive business value through the consistent application of technical processes and talent management/development through the leadership of the NWS sub-discipline.
What you will deliver
Key accountabilities:
1. Provide technical leadership & management of 5-10 NWS Geophysicists in the EH NWS Unit.
2. Understand and prioritize the most challenging technical opportunities and risks.
3. Technical verification for the discipline, including using SME support when required.
4. Act as a technical coach, build discipline capability, and support recruitment efforts. Mentor staff to support their career development.
5. Collaborate with global DL peers on best practices and federal initiatives.
6. Promote use of standard workflows and tools.
7. Embed lessons learned across all stages of the Well Delivery workflow.
8. Drive knowledge sharing within NWS. Contribute to Communities of Practice to share knowledge with the wider bp NWS community.
9. Regional contact for discipline related IT&S toolkit needs & issues.
10. Support multi-discipline teams in designing the correct well for the desired outcome and timely delivery of subsurface well planning to meet the rig schedule.
11. Ensure application of geophysical workflows for seismic overburden description, depth prognosis and uncertainty estimation and utilizing seismic velocities for pore pressure prediction.
12. Ensure data acquisition plans include appropriate geophysical wellbore data.
13. Ensure consistent and robust application of NWD Practices and Processes.
14. In close collaboration with the Geohazards, PPFG and NWS GL DL's, ensure drilling hazards are sufficiently described and managed with an appropriate overburden and PPFG description.
15. Ensure appropriate application of real-time seismic well tie analysis to inform operational updates and decisions.
16. Ensure capture of Post Well Learning, Documentation & Review of lessons.
17. Support Performance management and tracking of planned vs actual outcomes.
18. Assure compliance with the law and conformance with BP policy (including HSSE, applicable BP Practices and Guides, Code of Conduct, ethics, HR, etc.).
19. Collaborate and work with wells, production, operations, projects, and Leadership.
What you will need to be successful
Essential experience:
1. Extensive proven experience in Geoscience.
2. Technical competency in well planning, pore pressure prediction, overburden characterization, shallow hazard assessment and operations geology.
3. Ability to quickly respond to situations, often with incomplete and ambiguous information.
4. Strong BP value driven behaviors and capability to work effectively with experienced colleagues with a wide range of technical skills.
5. Able to distill complex issues into simple, crisp communications.
6. Willingness to seek help when needed from experienced colleagues.
7. Strong written and oral communication skills.
8. Proven people skills, with the ability to work in multi-cultural, multidiscipline environment needed to ensure connection with the broad BP user community.
