### **Job Summary:**
We are seeking a skilled and experienced **Structural Examiner (STE04)** to join our team in Scotland. This role is critical for ensuring the safety, reliability, and functionality of various structures, including bridges, tunnels, viaducts, and other transportation or civil infrastructure assets. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, assessing, and reporting on the condition of structural assets, identifying any defects, and supporting maintenance and repair recommendations to extend the assets' lifespan and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
### **Key Responsibilities:**
- **Conduct Detailed Examinations:** Perform scheduled and ad hoc examinations of civil and structural assets, including bridges, retaining walls, and other infrastructure, following industry standards and company procedures.
- **Defect Identification and Reporting:** Identify structural defects, wear, corrosion, and other potential issues that could impact the integrity of the asset. Document findings thoroughly using written and photographic records.
- **Risk Assessment and Prioritization:** Evaluate the severity of identified defects, prioritize according to risk, and recommend appropriate remedial actions to ensure public safety and asset longevity.
- **Data Collection and Analysis:** Use a variety of technical equipment and tools to gather data on asset conditions. Input examination results into asset management systems for analysis and reporting.
- **Compliance and Safety:** Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and relevant industry legislation.
- **Collaboration:** Work closely with civil engineers, maintenance teams, and asset managers to develop inspection schedules and maintenance plans. Engage with stakeholders to ensure accurate, consistent, and timely communication.
- **Reporting:** Prepare clear and concise examination reports, detailing the findings, risks, and recommendations for further investigation or immediate repair.
- **Continuous Improvement:** Keep up-to-date with industry best practices, regulatory changes, and advancements in examination techniques and tools. Attend training sessions as required.
### **Requirements:**
- **Educational Background:** HNC, HND, or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
- **Professional Experience:** At least 3-5 years of experience in structural examination, civil engineering, or a related field. Experience in transportation infrastructure (e.g., rail, roads, bridges) is an advantage.
- **Certifications:** STE04 certification is required. Additional certifications such as CSCS, IRATA Level 1 for rope access, or equivalent qualifications are advantageous.
- **Technical Skills:** Proficiency in data collection and structural examination software (e.g., asset management databases, inspection software).
- **Physical Requirements:** Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions. A high level of physical fitness is essential.
- **Driver's License:** A valid UK driver's license, as travel within Scotland to various inspection sites is required.
