Marshfield Primary School provides education for pupils between 3 and 11. It is a large, thriving school on the outskirts of Newport and is within the Bassaleg cluster of primary schools. There are currently 448 pupils on roll plus 20 full time equivalent pupils in the nursery.
The school is proud of its strong ethos and collective goal: ‘Together, caring, aspiring and achieving.’ In its most recent inspection, Estyn stated that: ‘Marshfield Primary School is a stimulating learning environment, in which pupils thrive and make good progress… they enjoy learning and have positive attitudes to school life.’ We continually strive to sustain high academic standards whilst developing a creative, learner-centred, skills-focused curriculum that is driven by the four purposes and is inclusive of all learners.
The children, staff, and Governing Body of Marshfield Primary School are looking for an inspirational, forward-thinking class teacher to take up a teaching post at the school on a fixed term contract covering a maternity leave. This is a fixed term (maternity cover) contract until Friday, 18th July 2025.

1. Is an outstanding practitioner to further enhance the excellent teaching at the school;
2. Is a committed team player and role model with proven ability to lead, challenge, and empower children and colleagues;
3. Is passionate about providing memorable learning opportunities for all children with an inspiring, creative curriculum;
4. Is able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the Curriculum for Wales;
5. Is innovative, reflective, and flexible in their approach;
6. Is enthusiastic, motivated, and caring – able to nurture children to achieve their potential;
7. Has experience of working with children with Additional Learning Needs and can manage behaviour well;
8. Is able to embrace community partnerships and play an active role in fostering good links with parents and all stakeholders;
9. The ability to work effectively together as members of our strong school team and contribute fully to the life of the school including extra-curricular activities;
10. Demonstrates strong Welsh language skills and a commitment to promoting Welsh as a second language;
11. Is committed to supporting our school in becoming an anti-racism learning organisation.
