We are looking for a full-time gardener as part of the gardens team, based at the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery.

Main purpose of role
Based at the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery, Lostwithiel, this role will form a part of the gardens team who look after the Nursery visitor, cutting and kitchen gardens, and planted spaces as well as the garden areas enjoyed by guests throughout the holiday cottage portfolio across mid Cornwall.
Position
The post reports to the Head Gardener and has no direct reports.
Scope of role
1. Planting and maintenance of gardens and planted features.
2. Hedge cutting, strimming, lawn cutting, watering, weeding, pruning and general tidying.
3. Creating and designing new planting schemes in liaison with the Head Gardener.
4. Basic maintenance and upkeep of garden fences, gates, boundaries, paths and structures.
5. Use of power tools, garden and agricultural machinery.
6. Assisting, informing and advising visitors on horticultural matters as required.
7. To work closely with the plants retail team to enhance the visitor experience and sales opportunities.
8. To support the kitchens with advice, cutting and provision of edibles when required.
9. Occasional involvement in workshops, customer events and staff training and awareness.
10. To always work in a safe and controlled manner and in compliance with policies and procedures.
11. To assist with any other duties in the gardens, outdoor spaces or plants teams as required.
Person Specifications, Education and Qualifications
1. Able to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and experience in a similar role.
2. Ideally possessing machinery tickets, a horticultural qualification or can demonstrate training and knowledge of gardening and general horticulture.
3. Happy to work in all weathers.
4. Must have a full driving licence and own vehicle.
5. Highly organised with the ability to prioritise tasks in a dynamic environment.
6. At ease dealing with the public and other internal departments.
7. Ability to work independently, and as part of multiple teams, with both regular and ad-hoc deadlines.
8. A proactive approach with the ability to use own initiative.
Reward Package
Full time, 40 hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm or 9am to 5pm.
Salary £28,000 per annum.
You will be entitled to 28 days holiday including bank holidays for England and Wales.
