This post in particular we areseeking an Anaesthetic Consultant colleaguewith specialist interest in Day Surgery.We are looking for a team of specialists, lead by a Consultant Anaesthetist, to ensure our new Elective Surgical Hub is a success, providing safe, efficient and advanced day case surgery for the local population.
There will also be opportunities to provide anaesthesia for a wide range of surgical specialties including urology, gynae-oncology, colorectal, general, ENT, maxilla-facial, trauma & orthopaedics, paediatric MRI and ophthalmology.
The proposed timetable will contain 6 general anaesthesia sessions, including two sessions of anaesthesia provision within the new ‘Elective Surgical Hub’ at Eastbourne District General Hospital (completion date March 2025).
The successful candidates will need to have the ability to work in and lead a multidisciplinary team, and understand the principles of clinical governance.
The post holders would need to have experience of teaching clinical skills to under graduates and to trainees of all levels, and provide evidence of participation in audit and quality improvement projects with specific relevance to their subspecialty interest.

Job plan and duties
The successful candidate will have a job planning session after 3-6 months of being in post to review their timetable and SPA (supporting professional activities). The 10.75 PA (programmed activities) job plan will incorporate 1.5PAs of SPA (1 timetabled SPA session per week, and 0.5PA additional SPA). Candidates who wish to work a different number of PAs will be considered.
Weekday Clinical Activities
The proposed timetable will contain six DCC sessions, including two sessions (1 day) of anaesthetic provision within the maternity unit.
Example timetable/job plan for anaesthetics
This is a 10.75 PA (programmed activities) job plan for a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia based at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
A theatre session or all-day operating list is between 08:00 and 18:00 hrs and equates to 2.5 PAs. A single (AM or PM) session is 1.25 PA.
The morning session following a non-resident 1ston call (i.e. overnight) is non-clinical during weekdays to ensure adequate rest. On-call is 1.75 PA on average
