Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Service (CWPS) has Pathology Laboratories across three Hospital sites: Coventry Hospital, George Eliot Hospital, and Warwick Hospital offering services to 1.8 million patients across the region.
Departments within CWPS include Chemistry and Immunology, Haematology, Microbiology, Virology and Molecular Pathology, Histopathology, Pre-Analytics including Phlebotomy, and Mortuary services. With a dedicated workforce of over 500 staff, CWPS provides a range of tests across many different analyzers and equipment, using state-of-the-art technology and specialist techniques.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Histology Improvement Lead to join the team. The Histology Department has staff across the 2 Hospital sites (Warwick Hospital and University Hospital, Coventry (UHC)) who perform an array of histological techniques including dissection, embedding, microtomy, QC, special staining, immunohistochemistry, and digital scanning.
The Department is currently in a procurement process with new equipment expected to be implemented next year. There is also a Digital Pathology system being introduced later this year at UHC. You will lead on implementing actions from the Histology 6-point plan and from Deep Dives conducted with staff.
You will be supporting the Cellular Pathology Manager and Senior Pathology Managers in horizon scanning and seeking new opportunities to transform Cellular Pathology, including reviewing external trends applicable to the service and implementing these transformation opportunities.
You will lead on the development of plans for improvement in Histology, make clear recommendations in complex scenarios, and be responsible for process management by resolving complex scientific and technical issues to ensure continuity of service.
We are looking for a dynamic, organized individual who is able to multitask, communicate with a wide array of staff, complete tasks/projects, and work well within a team, as well as autonomously when needed. Knowledge of Cellular Pathology is essential.
This is a 12-month fixed-term/secondment post that will be responsible for delivering and embedding improvements within the Histology laboratories.

You will also take ownership of, monitor, and control a designated budget or budgets, and be accountable for identifying and delivering any cost improvement plans (CIP) as required to achieve defined financial targets for the CWPS Network.
In conjunction with the Management Team, you will maintain an open, proactive, and collaborative culture within Pathology supported by effective two-way communication systems and processes that promote the achievements and activities of the relevant specialties and maintain clinical standards.
Take a lead in the propagation and maintenance of all laboratory aspects of the ISO standards/MHRA requirements, HTA regulations, HSE requirements, and any other statutory regulations, and ensure the delivery of services in line with the principles of these standards and requirements throughout CWPS.
Be the expert in the use of the Quality management system, and oversee the effective development and/or management of all controlled documentation, non-conformities, and audit reports within the system.
Manage the attendance and performance of all qualified and support staff members and be responsible for ensuring all staff fulfill and maintain their contractual requirements for mandatory training.
Design and work with the Pathology IT team on continuous developments, to ensure the most efficient use of the laboratory information system in the support of effective patient care within all Pathology specialties.
Lead by example to develop and maintain full engagement with all staff demonstrating motivational, presentation, and training skills at all times.
