Job overview
We have exciting posts available for qualified and HCPC registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to join the Older People Care Unit, working in a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). Posts are advertised at Band 8a; however, we welcome applicants who are approaching qualification, newly qualified, or if you are interested in a preceptorship arrangement.
Psychologists are highly valued within our CMHTs and the wider Care Unit. Whilst you would be based within a CMHT, we frequently come together as a wider psychology department for meetings, CPD discussions, regular away days, and time out sessions. The Care Unit promotes the importance of professional development and has recently been able to provide access to post-qualification specialist training. We are committed to supporting, empowering, and developing you as an individual.
You would also become part of a wider network of Psychologists across the Trust, facilitated by an Associate Director for Psychological Professions, with regular opportunities to connect. We have excellent relationships with local professional training courses and academic institutions, which also provide further research, supervision, and teaching opportunities.
Our vacancy is currently within the Broxtowe Community Mental Health Team. We also have vacancies in other pathways within the wider psychology department and may therefore be able to consider increased hours across different teams, if desired.
Main duties of the job
The CMHTs provide community-based assessment and interventions for older people with a variety of mental health needs and people with a diagnosis of dementia. The CMHT has links with the Memory Assessment Service (MAS), Young Onset Dementia team (YOD), Dementia Outreach Service (DOS), and the Intensive Home Treatment Teams (IHTT).
You would work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team, including other psychological professionals (i.e., CBT Therapists and Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners). This varied role involves providing psychological therapy, specialised neuropsychological assessments, and supporting the team through formulation, consultation, training, and supervision.
Psychologists are currently involved in several service development projects including reviewing psychological therapy pathways, severe mental illness, and complex emotional needs. You would be supported to actively engage in service development and organisational change, both supporting and participating in these developments.
