We are excited to offer an opportunity for an outstanding Specialty Doctor to join the medical team of Consultants & Specialty Doctors in our Community Mental Health Service (CMHS).
You will be forward thinking, able to manage your caseload expertly by ensuring regular assessment and reviews alongside primary care colleagues. You will be encouraged to work closely with the Consultant & Operational Staff to ensure smooth functioning of the service but also to ensure a high standard quality of care for those patients on your caseload. You will have the opportunity to develop psychotherapeutic skills & there are extended opportunities for experience in training in family interventions and CBT.
LSW employs a number of SAS Doctors & wishes to provide a working environment that recognises their diversity, commitment & contribution to not just patient care, but also the multidisciplinary team. In order to deliver on this aspiration, LSW has formally adopted the recommendations of the Charter for Staff & Specialist & Specialty Doctors that was first published in 2014 as a joint production by the BMA, Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, HEE and NHS Employers. As a SAS Doctor at LSW, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the weekly teaching of junior doctors, in monthly peer group meetings, & the SAS Committee. With a highly experienced & empathetic Medical Staffing Department, we also have a track record of supporting our SAS doctors to gain CESR accreditation.
Main duties of the job
The Community Mental Health Service (CMHS) provides coordinated community psychiatric care for adults of working age across two GP-based geographic localities within Plymouth. The localities are co-terminus with Social Services. The two locality-based CMHSs are in separate team bases: Avon and Cumberland at individual team bases. Each team includes Senior and Junior Medical Staff, Team and Medical Secretaries, Community Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Support Workers, and Psychologists. Social Workers are available across the City and work closely with the CMHSS.
CMHS provides a citywide assessment service through the agreed locality catchment areas, all routine mental health referrals are triaged at DRSS (Devon Referral Support Services). At this point, referrals may be diverted to Options (our local IAPT service if appropriate); referrals deemed too complex for Options will generally be referred either to the CMHS or directly to Tier 4 psychotherapy. We are compliant with Choose and Book requirements. CMHSs offer a range of therapeutic interventions to adults and their carers/families with severe and enduring mental illness. Each team has clear links with GP practices, and assessments are carried out in Primary Care where possible. Emergency referrals are triaged and seen by the relevant CMHS duty workers. Psychology services provide assessment and treatment using a range of evidence-based psychological treatments.
