Role: Real-time Systems Engineer The Real-time Systems Engineer will analyse and specify changes to an On-line Control and Monitoring system based on defined changes to system requirements through the defueling life cycle of site plant equipment. Specifically, the role involves assessing changes, determining their impacts on executable software, ensuring system database consistency, and evaluating the suitability of operator displays, alarms, and indication information. All changes must be controlled, fully defined, implemented, and verified within an operational system release. This role will also include identifying permanent changes in the current operational software build and consolidating them into future software and database deliveries issued for plant installation. Responsibilities: Work with plant system engineers to understand the changes required during the plant defueling phases, including removing, modifying, and adding new signal inputs, alarms, indications, and operator displays. Liaise with internal customers and external suppliers to define system requirements and scope software and database changes. Provide informed input into On-line Control and Monitoring system aspects and any proposed data modifications for live systems. Assist plant system engineers in updating their system-specific documentation with details of the agreed changes. Produce impact analysis statements, understanding the full implications of signal removals or additions and how they will be implemented within the On-line Control and Monitoring system. Support the production and implementation of an Alarm Management Strategy for changing plant conditions. Specify required changes to the database, operator displays, and executable software based on system requirements. Author an Engineering Change for software updates in a new release, consolidating any on-line data changes made persistent from previous operational releases. Maintain configuration control of modified modules for specified requirement changes. Participate in the acceptance process for software changes and ensure software process quality assurance. Desired Experience: We are looking for a forward-thinking individual with the following skills and experience: Knowledge of Real-time Control and Monitoring systems, data-driven designs, modular software structures, and priority task scheduling. Understanding of the current Real-time Control and Monitoring System and its data configuration in terms of plant signal inputs, alarms, and indications. Training will be provided as needed. Education: Bachelors degree in software engineering or a related field and/or relevant technical certifications. Security Clearance Statement: This role requires SC Clearance. While it is advantageous if currently held, successful candidates without it must undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance. To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last five years. In some circumstances, a minimum of three years residence in the UK over the last five years may be accepted with additional overseas checks.
