Senior Occupational Therapist DAU
Band 6
As a trusted organisation at the heart of our communities, we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people and local partners in achieving the best of health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together.
Our fundamental Values of Compassion, Openness and Excellence underpin how we intend to work as a Trust and the associated behaviours are becoming embedded in all aspects of how we work.
The Trust actively encourages applications from members of our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities. These groups are under-represented in our organisation, and it’s important to us that our workforce reflects the diversity of our communities as much as possible.
To further support the pledges in the Armed Forces Covenant and to make a positive contribution to support ex-armed forces personnel (veterans) make the transition to civilian life, the Trust has introduced a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for veterans who meet the essential criteria set out in the person specification.
If you require support/adjustments with your application please contact the recruitment team on 01332 788466.
Job overview
The post holder is required to work independently and make timely and clear decisions. Ideally we are looking for an Occupational Therapist with dual professional competencies (or a willingness to acquire) to work generically and have experience of performing rapid functional and mobility assessments, prescribing equipment and describing patient needs.
General day-to-day tasks involve chasing up or ordering equipment, reviewing function and transfers to support package of care selection, manual handling queries and problem-solving transport/access issues.
A strength-based practitioner with excellent communication skills and sensitivity is needed to manage patients and relatives with unclear expectations about their discharge.
The post holder will liaise closely with the therapy team on ward 5 at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital where patients often transfer following a short stay in DAU when plans need longer than a few hours to fulfil.
Experience as a clinical educator is desirable to support the student placement offer made to local universities.
Good, recent knowledge and practical clinical experience of a broad range of acute conditions is also required as the patients attending the DAU will come from a full spectrum of speciality wards.
Main duties of the job
The Occupational Therapist will work closely with the DAU team of nursing staff, Health Care Assistants, Discharge Support Officers, Discharge Support Leads, doctors, pharmacists and volunteers.
