We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to work at Cynet Hospital Bury Dunes, providing senior medical cover on our specialist Male PICU ward.
Service Description:
South Hampton Ward is a 12-bed male PICU that accepts emergency and crisis admissions from various sources, including acute and prison services.
The aim of South Hampton Ward is to deliver rapid, short-term interventions to help service users regain control and stability, facilitating transition to less restrictive care settings or returning home. The team at Cygnet Bury Dunes is experienced in supporting deaf individuals, with staff trained in British Sign Language.
Role Responsibilities:
* Serve as the Responsible Clinician, overseeing and maintaining the care of all ward inpatients.
* Audit medical services to ensure quality standards align with GMC guidelines and other professional standards.
* Provide expert psychiatric care as part of a multidisciplinary team including a Specialty Doctor, nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lead the provision of high-quality care to service users on South Hampton Ward.
2. Act as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism and empathy towards patients, families, visitors, and staff.
3. Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
4. Assess referrals, conduct mental state examinations, and undertake investigations, diagnosis, and treatment.
5. Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews, and clinical audits.
6. Lead risk assessments, risk management, and embed clinical governance.
7. Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and attend hearings.
8. Liaise with the Ministry of Justice regarding patient transfers and leave approvals.
9. Maintain accurate patient records.
10. Communicate regularly with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
11. Engage with patients, relatives, staff, and other stakeholders through effective communication.
12. Participate in academic meetings and adhere to CPD standards set by GMC, DoH, and Royal College of Psychiatrists.
13. Contribute to the telephone on-call rota as scheduled.
