Main responsibilities
* To act as a professional role model/team leader, setting standards of practice, promoting clinical effectiveness, and creating opportunities for teaching others.
* To effectively organise and manage the department, delegating responsibilities to other team members in a timely manner.
* To continue your development in managerial skills and lead the team in the absence of more senior staff.
* Following appropriate training and assessment, perform clinical care duties including Fluorescein Angiograms and Photodynamic Therapy.
* Communicate effectively within the team, motivate and support team members, and supervise staff and students in the absence of more senior staff.
* Be responsible for setting up clinic rooms and providing direct patient care, prioritising individual patient needs, and communicating effectively when a patient’s condition deteriorates.

* Demonstrate competence in clinical skills relevant to the clinical area.
* Able to complete accurate and legible patient records.
* Ability to teach students and untrained staff to develop skills.
* Ability to take the lead, initiate, and ensure appropriate action in response to the deteriorating patient.
* Clinical decision-making ability.
* Competence in calculations for safe administration of medicines/fluids.

Knowledge and Experience
* Broad knowledge and experience of clinical nursing practice within a hospital environment.

Qualifications and Training
* RSCN/RCN with current NMC Registration.
* Assessor Student Nurse/NVQ Assessor or willing to work towards.
* Post-registration qualification in Ophthalmic nursing.
