CNWL CAMSIH are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) to join our dynamic Camden and Islington Sexual health team. It is a partnership between Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) Sexual Health Services and Brook.
It's a free, confidential service for people age 13-25 to access sexual health screening, contraception, pregnancy testing and wellbeing support.
As part of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in providing clinical care, outreach support, and administrative assistance to ensure the highest quality service for our diverse patient population.
This is a very exciting opportunity to work as part of CNWL CAMSIH.
The role is very varied and includes delivering a high standard of sexual and reproductive care to patients including providing independent asymptomatic screening clinics, supporting nurse-led clinics for sexual health and contraception for young people as part of the Camden and Islington young people’s service.
The appointed person candidate will need to have great communication skills as they will be required to be the designated point of contact for patients, visitors and staff to the service, either face to face and via the telephone and to undertake this in a friendly, professional and courteous manner and advise them on clinic procedure.
Outreach will be a part of the role and the candidate will be expected to travel to outreach locations - training will be provided.
Clinical Delivery
• Support the clinical team in providing sexual health services, including STI testing, HIV care, contraception advice, and sexual health education.
• Assist with patient assessments, specimen collection, and preparation of clinical equipment.
• Provide pre- and post-test counselling for patients undergoing STI testing or HIV screening.
• Offer sensitive support to patients accessing services, ensuring confidentiality and promoting a non-judgmental, inclusive environment.
Outreach and Health Promotion
• Participate in outreach programs, including distributing information, providing education, and promoting sexual health services to vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities.
• Assist in organising and attending community events, sexual health campaigns, and workshops.
• Build relationships with local partners and agencies to enhance awareness and access to sexual health services.
Administrative Support
• Manage patient records and ensure accurate documentation of consultations and interventions.
• Help with the appointment booking process and ensure efficient running of clinics.
• Support the team with stock management, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment.
• Assist in data collection, monitoring, and reporting activities to help track service delivery and outcomes.

Main Duties: Professional/Clinical
• Establish and maintain communication with people on routine and operational matters.
• Performs Venepuncture for sexually transmitted infections and routine blood tests.
• Manages asymptomatic male and female patients through the clinic providing sexual health screening including blood tests for Blood borne viruses .
• Able to triage patients and refer patients that they are unable to manage to the nurse or doctor or signpost the patient to the next available appropriate clinical session.
• Raise awareness of testing for sexually transmitted infections and treatment service with a particular emphasis on vulnerable or risk communities within the area.
• Provide information, advice, support and guidance to 18-24 year olds on sexual health matter.
• Actively listens and observes behaviours and responds supportively.
• Interact with patients in the age group less than 18 years taking into consideration their different needs and concerns.
• To be aware of CNWL NHS Trust and/or Brook procedure regarding safeguarding adults and children.
• Observes patients’ right to confidentiality specifically in relation to contraception and sexual health.
• To be the designated point of contact for patients, visitors and staff to the service, either face to face and via the telephone and to undertake this in a friendly, professional and courteous manner and advise them on clinic procedure.
