Construction Buyer required in Essex
GVR Solutions are currently representing a well-established main contractor, based in Essex, who are in the market for a for a Buyer to join their team. They work within the Healthcare, Residential, Listed buildings, Commercial and Education sectors on refurbishment and new build projects.
Buyer duties/responsibilities:
* Continuous Improvement - Recording project information and buying activities to enable the company to continually improve.
* Business Development (Prospecting & Finding Work) - Identification of opportunities and leads, maintenance of relationships with key consultants and suppliers, external communications, feedback of information to database. Provision of cost advice to Internal Staff & Clients.
* Estimating (Winning Work) - Evaluation of tender documents and provision of prices for material purchases. Analysis of project pricing. Preparation of estimates.
* Risk Management - Maintenance of company Plant Register tracking purchases and internal plant & equipment movements.
* Health, Safety & Environmental - Positive promotion of safe working, compliance with company procedures, development of procedures.
* QMS - Compliance with company procedures, assistance with the development of procedures.
* Training & Staff Development - Assistance with training of contracts staff.
* Procurement & Contract Administration - Ensuring all materials, plant & equipment is properly ordered with correct paperwork being in place. Assisting accounts department to check and make payments within contractual terms and to maintain a positive cash position on each project. To ensure that each project maximises it’s profit. Production of project procurement schedule & programme, schedule of risk & opportunities. Analysis of tender and breakdown into buying schedules.
* Supply Chain - Negotiation & establishment of Supply Chain Agreements with key suppliers. Maintenance of Supply Chain SLA’s and measurement of performance. Dispute avoidance and management.
Requirements for the Buyer position:
* Able to plan projects in detail and prioritise workloads.
* Able to read drawings and understand construction information and technical solutions in detail. A detailed knowledge of all types of construction techniques and contracts are required. Able to research from all material available.
* Must be proficient in ‘Taking Off’ and Measuring from specifications and drawings and/or site visits and producing pricing schedules of quantities.
* Must be able to understand project requirements and ensure that these are communicated effectively to suppliers.
* Accuracy and clear presentation is essential.
* A commercial appreciation and ability to ‘make money’ is essential.
* A knowledge of contract terms & conditions relating to supply and hire.
* Excellent communicator, understands and able to format and present written material, computer literate.
