Brentwood School is seeking strong language graduates to train as secondary school German teachers.
Brentwood School is the lead school for the North London & Essex Hub of the National Modern Languages SCITT, a school-centred, subject-specialist teacher training programme focused on addressing the critical shortage of Modern Languages teachers. Discover a unique teaching training experience with the SCITT approach, setting it apart from conventional teacher training programmes:
* Immerse yourself in the school environment from the outset, culminating in the achievement of both qualified teacher status (QTS) and a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) at the end of the year.
* Engage in hands-on classroom experience with two diverse school placements in our partner schools, providing a well-rounded training experience.
* Benefit from expert instruction, as all aspects of the course are taught by experienced Modern Foreign Languages specialists, and the subject-specific PGCE is delivered and awarded by Sheffield Hallam University.
* Access training through Hub sessions at Brentwood School and national training days organised by the NML SCITT central office, offering a comprehensive and varied learning experience.
Successful candidates will receive a £26,000 bursary (subject to eligibility) for the training year, with the opportunity to apply for more substantial scholarships of £28,000 from the British Council (subject to eligibility, successful application, and selection). Trainees may also be eligible to seek financial assistance from Student Finance England for course fees (£9,535) and maintenance loans to support their educational journey.
Bursaries for subject knowledge enhancement courses of varying durations are available, subject to eligibility.
We are actively seeking candidates with the potential to become exceptional teachers. Demonstrating extensive subject knowledge in your chosen language or being a native level speaker is crucial. A good honours degree or an equivalent recognised qualification, coupled with a high level of fluency in at least one modern language, is essential for prospective candidates.
