Alternative Provision Learning Support Assistant – Farnborough, Hampshire

If so, GSL Education are seeking a resilient and compassionate Alternative Provision Learning Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Farnborough, Hampshire. This full-time position offers a salary between £17,500 to £19,500 per year (Based on your experience), with a start date available ASAP or from Easter 2025. A permanent contract is available following a successful probation period.
About the Role: As an Alternative Provision Learning Support Assistant, you will work within the school’s behaviour provision unit, supporting students removed from their primary classroom due to behavioural challenges. The role may also involve providing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) support, helping students regulate their emotions and re-engage with learning.
Responsibilities as an Alternative Provision Learning Support Assistant:
* Work with students in a small-group or one-to-one setting to manage behaviour and reintroduce positive learning strategies.
* Provide targeted SEMH support to students struggling with emotional regulation.
* Implement behaviour management techniques to help students reintegrate into the classroom.
* Support teaching staff by reinforcing key learning objectives.
* Foster a structured, encouraging, and inclusive environment for students with challenging behaviours.
Requirements for the Alternative Provision Learning Support Assistant:
* Experience working with students with behavioural challenges or SEMH needs (school, youth work, or similar backgrounds considered).
* Strong interpersonal skills with a calm and patient approach.
* Ability to de-escalate situations and promote a positive learning attitude.
* A background in education, mentoring, coaching, or transferable skills from roles such as youth work or sports coaching is desirable.
* Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
