An opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated individual to join our team of adult neurosurgical specialist nurses. Currently this role is Monday to Friday only.
We are looking for an experienced nurse who has a keen interest in supporting patients with a range of spinal conditions across the elective and emergency pathways. This includes but is not limited to: spinal stenosis, spinal tumours, vertebral fractures and spinal cord injury management. You will work closely with a number of Spinal Consultants and AHPs to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care provision across the inpatient and outpatient settings.
You will have excellent communication and listening skills and the ability to provide expert specialist advice as you support patients and their families throughout their journey, including those who may experience life changing disability or chronic pain due to their spinal condition. This role requires you to lead proactively on planning both rehabilitation and complex discharge.
A key aspect of the role is to improve the patient pathway from referral through to discharge and there is scope for you to lead on a number of service development projects. This includes development of nurse-led clinics and participating in nurse-led discharge. This role involves Trust level teaching, participating in research projects and presenting at the Spinal MDT meetings. You must have a current NMC registration and relevant experience within neurosurgery or spinal surgery
The post holder is a recognised expert in the specialty, responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes and undertaking specialist nursing procedures, where relevant.
Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students
Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care, both inpatient and outpatient, encompassing new treatments and evidence based care
Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area
This post holder will also work collaboratively with the Spinal Cord Injury CNS to link in with the spinal rehabilitation pathway, cross covering planned absences to enable seamless service provision.
The post holder will be required to work to meet the needs of the service. Initially this will be Monday – Friday, however the role may require unsocial hours, working weekends and bank holidays in the future.
