About the role
We require an agency Highway Engineer with extensive experience supervising highway construction works in the UK. They must have knowledge and experience of applying DMRB/MCHW Specification for Highway Works. It is preferable for candidates to be an NEC4 accredited Site Supervisor or have knowledge and experience of undertaking the NEC4 Site Supervisor contract role.
The role will be mainly based on construction sites in and around Bristol city and involves acting as Site Supervisor for highway engineering work on behalf of Bristol City Council. This includes checking the quality of workmanship and materials, ensuring compliance with construction drawings, monitoring progress against the programme, and remeasurement of the works. The position may require occasional out-of-hours work to supervise highway carriageway surfacing works. Experience of undertaking NEC4 Project Manager administration is desirable.
Responsibilities include managing the design & delivery of engineering projects from inception to construction/completion, working with all stakeholders, and leading an allocated team engaged in engineering design, construction, and maintenance projects, taking Principal Designer (under CDM regulations) responsibility for the work within the team. Candidates are expected to identify and develop innovative design solutions to allocated projects and deliver these within time and budget.
The majority of the work of the Engineering Design Team supports Bristol City Council's predominantly Urban Transport objectives and may include: Highways, Civil, Structural, Drainage, Contract Administration & Surveying work. Post holders would be expected to work in any field as required by individual project briefs.
Responsibilities
* Manage & deliver complex construction projects as required by a project brief, often in a constrained urban environment, as part of a design team or on your own initiative by:
* Conducting initial, interim, and final surveys and investigations.
* Completing designs, calculations, specifications, plans & drawings, estimates, reports, and bills of quantities using Computer Aided Design and other specialist software.
* Performing site visits to ensure the Contractor is undertaking the work in accordance with the specification and programme, ensuring that the construction site is operated safely, and recording and reporting any concerns.
* Preparing and issuing statutory and other notices, ensuring they are updated and closed in accordance with legal requirements.
* Liaising with statutory undertakers and other BCC departments to manage conflicts and coordinate delivery.
* Managing the financial and contract aspects of projects, with particular emphasis on delivery within time and budget.
